Howdy everyone. So grateful and glad I found this site, I have been reading nonstop for days now, hoping to educate myself about the brand. I have always wanted to buy a Breitling and may have found one within my reach (my first, hopefully not the last). It is a Power Reserve (B14047) and has the numbers 81980 and 1965 in the case back.

I am hoping the experts here can help me decode the last 2 sets of numbers. And more importantly, hope to get an an idea on how much I should pay (case, crystal and strap in excellent shape but no box or papers, listed for $1400). TIA.

P.S. I am also looking at an Aerospace (2-tone) complete with box, papers, tag and a recent service, listed for $1450).

Welcome to BreitlingSource - that's an unusual model.

81980 is the model number - changed to A14047 / B14047 etc later. 1965 is the serial number of the watch.

Thanks for the quick replies, Roff and vintage. Is $1,400 a fair/reasonable price?

Probably in the $900-$1500 range depending on service history, steel or tu-tone, and on a bracelet or not.

I don't generaly do pricing, and general advice is to check Chrono24 or completed eBay sales. That's a little difficult with an uncommon model like this - there are a couple of dealers listing on Chrono24 for higher prices - but they are dealers. If the watch needs an immediate service / has no service history then I would want to pay less - it could potentially be unserviced in 20 years and that's going to be expensive!

If it has a service history and a couple of years or so to go before it needs another then the price is reasonable.

edit - Paul got there first.

Roff, I have browsed chrono24 already and saw similar models listed there. Paul (vintage): leather strap, steel with gold accents and point I am "uneasy" about is no papers/service history. Plan to contact Breitling next week to bounce off the serial # of the watch. Thanks both again. Have a great weekend gentlemen.

I'm not sure of your location, as it's not given. However, if you are contacting BUSA in Wilton, they may be on August Holiday next week (if memory serves).

Thanks for the info. I am in the US military and currently working on my tan in Kandahar 8) (otherwise based in California).
