IMHO, dial , sliderule , caliber and caseback are genuine and they have been put together with a non Breitling case .
For the hour and minutes hands, it is like Laurel and Hardy !

I got to say no to the dial. Fred or Vintage can probably verify this but I do not remember the numbers being raised like they are on this dial. Seems 1-12 were flat on the dial were as these are definitely raised above the dial.

I don't like it either. Outer sliderule looks too unrefined (look at the bottom), case is definitely wrong, dial also doesn't look quite right, hands are obviously mismatched.

Phil & Roff, my friends, there is no outer sliderule ?

I would think this could be a correct 769 case, heavily polished & replated; with a thick fabbed bezel to replace the missing turning bezel and sliderule insert ?

dial is good work, but repainted I think, never saw raised numerals on a 769; hands are incorrect.

Yes Fred, you are right for the outer sliderule, I just checked the scale zone of the dial . Case cannot be correct, as horns are not drilled and shape is too different . Not 100% sure, but not shocked about raised numerals ?

Phil, there were GP ref. 769s w/o drilled horns/lugs.

Well you knew what we meant

Still not convinced about this one though, although yet again it's evidence of someone who could get great business as a dial restorer if they 'went honest'.

Yes, my first thought was I have never seen raised numerals on a 769. I strongly agree with Roff that whomever is doing this work could very well be gainfully employed legitimately rather easily. You don't wake up one morning and start popping out work like this. But for some it is about faking out the experts and faking people out that gets them their jollies. Too bad.

I saw this weeks ago and thought it was a franken watch. My interest did focus on the dial where I think the raised numerals are correct but not common. I did see this on http://forums.watchuseek.com/f39/breitl ... -9103.html above the "1946 Chronomat ref 769 in 18K" picture.

no raised numerals there, regular "lume" Gen. 1 dial.

Fred, I can't see Breitling not making a raised numerals dial. Normally what I've seen is that there have been some raised numerals and stick markers (the 12 at the top and 6 at the bottom) early chronomats like in 1942. I hope you are incorrect just because I do like the raised numbers markings (or mixed raised markers) on the chronomat.

Like always, helpful; even if I don't like your answer.

happy to be proven wrong, like raised numerals too, but have never seen a ref. 769 w/ them, sorry. Breitling typically did applied numerals btw., mostly roman, there is an ad. w/ an applied roman dial for the 769 in the Trott article, would love to see one in the metal.
