Hi, I just came across a Datora 785 with AOPA wings on it below the weekday-month windows and Incabloc below that and on a black dial. Did anyone here come across such a variation? Unfortunately can't post the pic here since belongs to a member on another forum,

Thanks

I remember seeing a very similar Wakmann with the same wings a few years ago. What does the back and movement look like?

Welcome Nanuq.

What a gorgeous Datora. Love the in the round shots too. Gives a real feel for the case depth.

Stunning. Thanks for popping across and sharing. :lingsrock:

Looks like a Wakmann to me so technically it's neither a Datora or 785. :)

Is "Datora" a Breitling model designation? Interesting, you learn something new every day.

Hope you liked it!

Interesting, I found another thread here with more details; apparently the movement was sourced from Breitling to be assembled in the USA.

Nice pics NanuQ. I too think it's a Wakmann as Vintage has mentioned based on the new pictures though yours is a much more beautiful dial than the one in the link you posted above showing the other Wakmann. Lets also see what Fred (WatchFred) and Roff(Roffensian) have to say about this one and if they have seen another in this configuration. Also any model designation on the case back?

As far as I know about Wakmann and Breitling, some Breitlings were marketed by Wakmann in the US during a US embargo, others had a Breitling and Wakmann collaboration so some show Wakmann and Breitling markings while others were wholly Wakmann manufactured and had nothing to do with Breitling watches.

For example here's a pic of my Wakmann distributed Navitimer showing a Wakmann box (1955). I am guessing your watch will be somewhere after 54-55 depending on when the AOPA-Wakmann relationship began. With Breitling, that relationship with AOPA began in 1954.

Btw for pics you can also put them in high resolution in Photobucket.com and post the links here.

nice piece, very nice.

before the pictures loaded I feared it would either be another mid 60s Breitling 785 fake, but there is no Breitling claim or incorrectly added signatures, "just" a beautiful watch - as Paul said, "Datora" was a Breitling trademark.

had expected to see a Charles Gigandet marking inside the caseback like the widely available triple date chronographs we see w/ Wakmann, Gigandet and Vulcain branding, but this shows "made in France" only and no maker's mark, looks quite a bit earlier than the "normal" Wakmann Valjoux 730, still has a R72C, so would think it to be early 1960s - have read claims that Yema and Dodane were working for Wakmann, but did not find any documentation for this. love the hands on this one.

Suspect that the France is just the case, although have seen a lot of 'French' Wakmanns. This seems to be in very nice condition, agree on the sentiments of early 60s - couldn't be much earlier than that with the Incabloc dial. Great piece!
