Is BUSA still giving out gifts? I bought a watch back in March 2013 from a Fla AD and had it registered, but no hat or pen.
How long does it take?

They certainly used to, but they were about the only importer who ever did. Recently, other importers have been trying a bit harder.

Last time I went to Breitling's UK office they gave me a nice pen and a travel case. I've never bought a Breitling from new, but I think the odds of getting anything free from British retailers are pretty much zero, whatever the weather or the economy!

It always has been pretty much a zero chance of getting any freebies out of UK AD's unless you cheekily ask at the point of sale. BUK's never routinely given out hats or anything by default, unlike BUSA.

Agreed. When I was in the AD at the beginning of the week considering a SAII I mentioned that US Breitling owners get gifts and freebies, and she looked at me totally blank and said she'd never heard of that. I joked about typical 'rip-off Britain' and that even a baseball cap would be better than nothing, and she said "oh, I can get those.... but no one ever asks" - OK, but DO you ever just give them out? It seems not.

I wouldn't mind not getting a freebie, but it seems that US prices are much more competitive than in the UK, there seem to be many more offers and discounts given (I was told that hell would freeze over before they were 'allowed' by Breitling to discount off RRP) PLUS freebies given out - and some seem to be quite significant freebies too.

I'm off on holiday soon, so will see if I can buy something whilst I'm away. I'd like to support UK retailers, but not at any cost.

Well, the bottom line is that any local/regional initiatives such as clubs, promotion giveaways, etc are local distributor's efforts channeled through local AD networks.
Not all of it but certainly a majority has to be sponsored by the local/regional distributors.
Majority of the local/regional distributors are independent enterprises so funds for the clubs, events and giveaways are limited and largely subject to local/regional sales volumes and associated margins.
US volume sales have been relatively good for BUSA over the years hence the reason why they have been able to pimp the market with giveaways. Other markets may not have had the same volumes hence the reason why we have not been seeing the same level of gifts.

What if people actually paid to be in a Breitling club? Making a website that only owners of Breitling time pieces can log into is possible, and purchase Breitling merchandise is a great thing. I'm sure that there are plenty if people that would love to buy this merchandise made by their beloved timepiece manufacturer. Regardless of sales volumes and giving free gifts, the merchandise can be purchased which means more money to the company. It's throwing ideas.... bored at work today :)

Bottom line is that Breitling don't offer gifts, regional distributors do.

That's exactly what I'm talking about!!! I would pay to be a member in a club like this.
