Perhaps a little premature given that Australia still have a battle to avoid the follow on..... :poke:

Indeed. Aus from 42-0 to 96-7. To paraphrase Crocodile Dundee, "Call that a collapse? This is a collapse!"

All I can say is I was glad I wasn't in Australia watching that. Congrats England, practically 2 up in the ashes unless we pull off a miracle which, based on the current state of our current batting line up, is highly unlikely. Depressing :(

128 all out, 233 behind, 5 for Swann, England will doubtless bat again to pile it on.

Superficially pleasing, but as Tim S says that means 2-0 after 2, which does kill the series a bit.

Would like to be able to congratulate the England bowlers, but honestly that was an awful batting performance.

Yep, now that was a collapse.

But hey in this series we're going to have to celebrate at mid-game high points it seems as the overall scoreboard is terrible!

What scares me from here is that it's really a ten test series. Is it possible Australia could lose 10-0 after the limp wristed performance in this test?

Boycott summed it up..."If Bangladesh had been bowled out for 128 like Australia were, people would be saying they are pathetic and shouldn't be playing Test cricket."

Mind you, what a howler by third ump on Smith's catch of Bell! David Gower was incredulous. Got to agree.

Yep, only thing worse than Australia's batting in this series (with the exception of the tail) has been the umpiring. Could still be a contest this time - only 500 more to win and all of the Australian bowlers still have to bat

Yep, I could also win the next lottery draw.
Don't like my odds though seeing that I have not bought a ticket :-) :-) :-)

We might suck at sport, but at least even in the middle of winter here it is still warmer and sunnier than what the poms call 'summer' ;)

Gents,

Please be a little more gentle towards each other in this debate. This is great sporting event, unique in the world, and there is no room for acrimonious comments.

If the test series does not improve I am sure the MCC, the English team and their fans will not take away any glowing tributes on a win. I can only say that as a POM living in Australia I would prefer England to win on their own terms and for Australia to be a little bit better, to take the fight up to a great old foe. Thats what we would all prefer I think, and thats what makes a great test series. Theres nothing glorious about this test, but eqaully, there is nothing we can do about it either.

Respect each other in your comments and enjoy the series in the spirit for which it was intended.

And, everyone, stop using that poke finger too. It’s so crass and childish. Not worthy in this or any other debate.

Now I’ve got that off my chest………….. :) Peace.

:? I've been inhabiting and contributing to this thread for a while now and haven't discerned the faintest whiff of acrimony - I thought it was all very genteel and sporting.
