vendor has asserted that he has only serviced it and polished it. Which we now know is not fact. I don't deal with those who seek to deceive, so he can sell it to someone else. Ideally, the gold plated models aren't what I am after anyway. I only mentioned this one as I thought it was in good enough condition to alter my criteria, but this has been proven to not be the case.

The search continues.......

Thanks to the experts!! :lingsrock:

Far Enough. Each to their own.

I have inbuilt bulls#!t deflectors when it comes to some types of sellers. So when I get a line from a vendor, I don't necessarily write off a possible transaction if I think its a a mistruth. If it’s what I want and I can tell there are no other impediments with the watch, I might overlook the BS and buy, especially if the price reflects the real value of the watch. All things considered.

Good luck with your search. :thumbsup:

Good point, although in this case it's got a fair bit wrong with it so happy to walk away. I guess if I didn't put up with a degree of horsepoo, I wouldn't be where I am today.

clearly a dialfactory ring, not NOS but restored.

I don't think that's a Dialfactory ring Fred. I've got one of those to use if I have no choice. So far I've been able to find good used pieces. Here's the difference, this first pic is what Billshaine sells;

Notice the how the marks directly under the numbers are darker, as they should be. This is a sloppy example in my opinion.

Now look at the Dialfactory ring and notice how the mark under the numbers are the same darkness as all the rest of the markers. Definitely different than the OPs example on ebay.

I like the preciseness of the Dialfactory ring much better but it's not perfect either.

Mr Vintage,

Re your last post comment on Billshane's 806 dials, I think that should read "than they should be" "as they should be" suggests accuracy surely?

Interpret it as you like but I said "as they should be" meaning they a correct to be darker than the other marks. Wasn't commenting on the degree of darkness.

The whole number graduations are slightly wider and appear heavier and that’s as it should be on both rings. The first example is, to put it mildly, undesirable as a replacement C scale. It will never match your D scale and may look detractive after fitting.

There is some blotting on the numerals too, so I would suggest the emphasised graduations have had too much ink placed on them, or the material will not accept the coating of black as easily, and therefore its dried in a pool' on the surface. The minor graduations seem OK, but a little shaky. They almost look absorbent in the picture, but that’s just my imagination. The Dial Factory ring is definitely a first rate aftermarket version though. Now, all you need to do is make sure they align perfectly with your D scale when fitting. You have a 1:10 chance of that occuring.
