Hello all,

I am a new member here that was has been looking at acquiring a first Breitling. First let me say, this forum is incredible. The posts and discussions are full of great information and debate. Reading on the sidelines is fascinating especially when it turns to discussions about quality or comparisons to other brands.

Hopefully you folks can offer me your opinions on a couple questions I had be fore a potential acquisition. I like the Chronomat 44 boutique edition. It is supposedly limited to Breitling boutiques yet my local linkerdorfer has one in stock and proudly on display. The rep claimed they do very well with Breitling so Breitling did them a special favor by allowing them to obtain one for sale.

My first question has to do with the box. When the rep presented the box, I expected that the limited edition piece would come with a special box; it was a regular box. Is that normal? Further, I thought Breiting came with a bakelite box. The box I saw didn't look like bakelite. Any reason why the box changed?

Finally, this piece seems to be a bit of a mystery as in no one on the forum has mentioned it. There are no reviews on youtube or here for it. The watch doesn't even seem to have a name like you would see with most limited editions like "blackbird". It is not in the current catalog. Finally, the website features it but only gives cursory information on it. Can anyone shed more light around this release?

Welcome to the forum.

Your first question - yes the boxes have changed about a year or so ago.
No more bakelite, it's a shoebox, ughm sorry, a type of sturdy cardboard.
More details here:

Having said that I thought the Solid Gold Breitling watches come in a fancy wooden box but if you were looking at the steel/gold combination then it should come in the standard box.

The Boutique Edition is essentially a Chronomat 44 hence the reason it has no special model name. It is a Chronomat 44 Boutique Edition, that's it.
The Boutique Edition comes in Steinless Steel/Rose Gold or Rose Gold finish with a black pearl dial. This combination is unique to the Boutique Edition only.
Not sure if it also comes with a display or solid back like the other limited editions.

Welcome to the forum! I actually didn't even know this piece existed. You're right that there doesn't seem to be much info on it. I did find some obscure article in Flemish that said it was limited to 250 pieces worldwide, which is probably why we haven't heard much about it.

Wessa is spot on with the box stuff. We were all pretty disappointed when the bakelite boxes went away, only to be replaced by something no better than a shoebox.

I'm not sure when it was released. Breitling has a thing for pushing out LE pieces right now. However, if you ever decide to sell the watch, it won't be worth any more money than a normal two-tone Chronomat. so don't let the LE designation lead you to believe that it's actually special. If the model happens to have a transparent caseback, this may add a little value, as Breitling traditionally has only done these casebacks on LE pieces . . . but not all LE pieces.

I wouldn't worry too much about the details around the watch. If you like it, that's all that really matters in the end. If I were going to buy another Chronomat right now, I'd have a hard look at the GMT version, although I'm not sure if it's available in two-tone.

The Chronomat GMT (47mm) comes in steel only.
The Chronomat 44 GMT (44mm) comes in two tone (rose gold) option.

Small addition to boxes and warrantycards: The small yellow "envelop", where the warrantycard, COSC-Cerificate and manual are stored, will vanish. With the new electronic warranty, there will come a leather cardholder.

Here is a picture of my limited edition Chronomat. I expect no premium when I sell or trade it. I just like the pearl faces. I also purchased a white pearl face Chronomat.Image

Both beautiful pieces, I love the mother of pearl dials. Good luck with them both.
