Hi there !

I prefer the old Breitling models. Before, most of the time I wear Panerai or Zenith (Hamilton and Poljot for toolwatch)
Since february I have an AVI 765, found in Paris.
I got a problem cause I can not leave it even a single day.
I read a lot about this watch and I try to find any kind of informations.
FYI : In August or September will be released book : The vintage Breitling watch collection. I hope to find good information.
So, my AVI 765 looks like new but fully restored by Breitling in 2011.
Dial, hands, crown, pushers, plexi and setting from the Venus 178 with the 15 minutes wheel for the 15 minutes register.
Well, now I think that vintage watchs have a soul. Even if my watch is not completely vintage.
Never mind ! I love it !

Enjoy !

PS : you will notice that I try severals straps (Pam culture ... :-)

Love this watch on black or brown leather strap. Looks very nice indeed. :lingsrock:

Mid 20th Century watch design has had a great impact on the watch world of today. There is no doubt about vintage watches of this era getting as much attention as they do and being so sought after, as they are. There is simplicity and beauty in the design of Chronographs from that period, which has also spilt over into simple centre second watches as well. They had the right look for that time and developed watches in a period of great change in our lives. Call it nostalgia or something else, these watches are defined by their times and we look back to them for inspiration. I think that’s part of the charm and one of the reasons to collect (if you can remember those not so distant days).

Anthropology would have an explanation for this, but it’s also the simplicity of the design which makes these watches relatively timeless, and therefore attractive to a facebook generation. Elegance once defined cannot be reinvented. Try as designers will, it is not possible to recapture that feeling we now see in vintage watches. They were then and this is now. But it does not stop us remembering or wanting to be part of that time.

Watch design evolves and moves on, which is as it should be. Accordingly, we do too. I wonder if watch collectors in the future will be looking back to what is ‘design’ today and be avidly collecting what we consider as contemporary? I wonder what ‘longing for a by-gone era’ they will be thinking of when they choose to buy a watch of our times? You never know, they may look at what we design, make and buy today and decide to buy what our fathers bought back in the 60’s instead! I hope not, but it is possible……

This morning, after BNI, my best friend show me a vintage Yema with a Nato strap.
Good idea !
this afternoon ... what a rainy day in Paris in june !!! (it rains for months in Paris).
So, I found a Nato for my AVI.
It comes from Garde Temps at the Galerie Vivienne

Hi Chris,

Your AVI would look good on any strap or braclet I think. Its just that sort of cool and stunning watch.

I know NATOs aren't everyone's cup of tea but this watch was made for nylon. Looks great.
