Hi

Im new on here so hope I am posting this question in the correct location.

I have no knowledge of watches but have always been attracted to the Breitling brand. I am looking to invest in one for approx £4-4.5k but have no idea where to buy one from and which range will hold its value the best.

Initially I was looking at:

Are there better places to source less mainstream timepieces or are the above good solid starters.

Forget buying a watch as an investment! If you buy a used piece then you may not lose too much when you sell, but you aren't going to make money - over a period of many years you may end up 'winning' from a pure cash perspective, but that will have more to do with inflation than the increase in value of the watch - and that ignores the cost of servicing.

If you are looking at buying a new piece then do so as a watch to wear and enjoy and accept that it is going to cost money to do that. Based on the fact that the site you linked to is in the UK I am assuming that you are based in Britain so I would suggest contacting either of the English forum sponsors - Banks Lyon and Andrew Michaels, links are at the top of this page.

The site that you linked to is not an AD (authorised dealer) and so they source pieces from ADs and then sell them on - they are known as grey market. grey market pieces come with no factory warranty and you have no idea of the history of them. For your first piece I would 100% recommend going the AD route.

You are quite right, I didn't mean as an investment. I meant more that it won't lose hundreds of pounds year on year.

Are the watches I've listed good models?

They are good if you like them. There is no real advantage of one model over another with the marginal exception of LEs, but even then they generally retain the same percentage of their value. If you buy a new Breitling then it will lose hundreds of pounds in the first couple of years - nothing to be done.
