I was very surprised when a couple members on here who live in the Uk bought from my AD, Govberg, and it was still cheaper even after paying the shipping and import taxes. I know the on-line retailers all offer their own 2 year warranty and usually free overnight shipping, but I still think knowing your buying from a business that the brand your buying deals with directly, is the best bet.

Maybe the on-line comparison is a little unfair, but when you compare the UK to the US (as has been discussed at length in other threads recently) there is a very big disparity between the two regions in terms of pricing, and their attitudes to discounting.

Fair enough. :D

Non-Breitling warranties are worthless, unless they will pay to have Bling service it. Nobody wants cut-up tin-can replacement parts in their watch, installed by a third party that thinks Pulsars are good enough. :?

Rhetoric aside, that is really the crux here. :)

Well I was one of those buyers and I'm afraid that or happy that when you can buy from a Breitling AD in the US for £400 - £500 cheaper than a Breitling AD in the UK it's a no brainer! For me anyway! If there are people who are willing to go through the UK AD's rather than the very much more attractive pricing in the US at the moment then I would think that they can afford to pay that bit extra anyway so it is up to the individual at the end of the day! Although I may not be poor I am buy no means wealthy but I do like the feeling that you have got a good deal and I beleive that is what I got so I know where my first stop will be for my 2nd 'Ling'.

I am new to this forum, but I'd like to add my view if I may.

I might be a first time Breitling buyer. My Rolex has finally packed in after 27 odd years and numerous services, so I thought I'd take the plunge and buy a Breitling.

Now I live in Dubai like Mercury2wo and I went to the AD yesterday who said that after discount the watch I was interested in would be $1500 more than Jomashop in New York.

I was going to buy 1 for my wife too but hers was $2000 more than at Jomashop.

So basically it will cost me $3500 more to buy from the AD. I don't really see the point. If it was just a matter of $500 or $1000 I'd gladly buy from the AD.

Perhaps I could buy the 2 watches from Jomashop and use the money I'd saved to buy another one from the AD?? :D

mine was form an AD and my future ones will be from the AD. Nothing beats being able to see what you are going to buy before forking out those hard earned money, Also my AD tells me which models have some faults and which are have been sold withoput any issues so I get to avoid buying a lemon.. no that I have bought so many watches. Life is complicated enough without having to worry about the watches we buy :D

In the US it is not hard to find an AD that will beat Internet prices. You get all the papers, fittings and an even better discount on the next watch.

In the UK it's usually hard to get anything more than 5% off the RRP at an AD.

Very true, my local Goldsmiths where I bought my ASBS/Navitimer World sounded most put out when I asked for a bigger discount of 20% on my Seawolf.

I did however find an AD who does give around 20% and exemplerary service who will get all my future business!!

 Good point. As long as discounts are being offered, people will continue to shop the price. I say that as long as you get all the paperwork and warranty, save the money.

Unfortunately hre in the UK there are way too many 'high end' retailers of luxury goods - watches in this case, who come across as snotty-nosed and up themselves. The worst are usually the ones who sniff and refuse the suggestion of a discount. F**k em I say. There's plenty of honest, relaible sources on t'internet. I dealt with a chap from Swisswatchesdirect the last time, and I got cracking service at a cracking price. Oh, and my watch was sourced from an AD with manufacturers warranty et al. So AD's can discount a lot more than 5% here - but some just want to play silly buggers if you walk into their shops to buy (Goldsmiths being one).

I've learned a helluva lot more about Breitlings here than I'll ever learn from an AD. And when it comes to service, I'd rather cut out the middleman crap and deal directly to B.UK who are an incredibly helpful bunch with the best knowledge base.

I looked at their site when looking for my Seawolf a few weeks back, I eventually found that a Genuine Authorised Dealer called Banks Lyon would sell me the watch for £195 less than Swisswatchesdirect which included free special delivery and no premium for using a credit card. I would highly recommend them.

Hhhm very interesting Stef! Wonder if they do 9 month interest free as well? Thanks for the tip. I'll make an enquiry .

[Edit] No disrespect to my group buy enquiry - (a stonking offer) but unless I happened to be in the good 'ole US of A for some other reason, the duty, VAT, shipping, insurance and lately the xchange rate, to get a Breitling to my door tips things the wrong way.

cheers,

Ike
