You'll also need some serious elbow grease and a little patience. If you have never polished a watch before you are going to be like a clumsy virgin your first time. Just like any thing else you will get better and more efficient with a little practice.

Look at some of the threads that I recommended searching under cape cod and sunshine. Even if you decide to use something else those threads have all kinds of information on technique, tips and tricks, precautions, etc, etc, etc.

I can make a suggestion on an alternative to cape cod. Try Pinnacle Crystal Clear. I read somewhere that this is favoured polish of Museums. It is definitely the best polish I have ever used. As it’s not an impregnated cloth, it actually lasts a long long time in combination with a dry cloth. Definitely do not use too much as it’s not necessary and would be wasteful.

I believe as the formula is neutral, it also lasts for a very long time on the item polished without tarnish. I can attest to this, having used it for the past 5 years. Its superb. It’s also excellent at masking light scuffs. As it’s a cream, it is also very good for polishing with high speed mops when extra power is need to remove deeper scratches.

The only downside is that it instantly goes black when it hits stainless steel (the cream that is) and to counter this, I use gloves always. I actually have a series of gloves from black down to white, as I polish through different stages from start to finish.

I had a look there and can't see these threads, I'm on my phone so maybe just missed them. Can you tell me where to search or send a link ?

56 pages of results from typing 'cape cod' into the search box - search.php?keywords=cape+cod&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

16 pages of results from typing 'sunshine' into the search box - search.php?keywords=sunshine&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

Search works on phones.

Ok, ive found lots of stuff now. Tell me how this sounds as a sort of general guide. For just an everyday general shine up I can use the sunshine cloth dry with no additional polishing agent but if im trying to get scratches and stuff out I should use Cape Cod ?

For everyday, you can use a micro fiber cloth like the ones you use to clean eye glasses. Just wet a corner with some warm water and wipe the watch down. Then dry and polish with the rest of the cloth that is dry.

For scratches you try the other methods.

Don't over think it, you will be fine!

A soft toothbrush and diluted dish soap will be more efffective than just soaking.

Hi guys. I pick up my brand new SA at the weekend and I'm trying to get the best type of cloth for givng it an every day once over so it's nice ad shiny. Obviously being brand new it has no scratches on it so I don't want a cloth that may cause any. I have ordered a sunshine cloth but I understand these can be used to polish out small scratches by the method of creating lots of tiny scratches? So my theory is a sunshine cloth is better suited for a used watch. Maybe I'm looking into this too much but I'm really scared incase I cause any scratches on my new watch. Help please ? Remember I want a cloth I can use every day without causing any scratches

I have a Sunshine cloth as well, however for everyday polishing, I have been using a Fabulustre. It has a rouge side and polishing side. I have been using only the polishing side so far and results have been good.

I use a microfiber bag that came with my sunglasses for everyday use. I use the sunshine cloth 1 a week to keep that nice factory shine. Also I bought a Varaet watch cleansing kit that I'm waiting for in the mail. But I've been using dish soap and warm water to do any cleaning, then drying with a soft towel. The paranoia settles after a few weeks;)
