Hello,

I have a Breitling Datora 2031 which I bought from ebay a few years ago. I have not worn it for quite a while, but the movement is still working. You should be able to see that there is damage to the bezel edge.

I'm trying to get an idea of its authenticity and value. The watchback says 2031 and the following numbers: 1264816. From what I can glean this might mean it is from the Toptime range?

Apologies for the bad pics too. My camera doesn't have a macro function and I would really need to get someone else to take better shots for me. If there's something else I need to show, please advise.

If anyone feels able to help, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you.

Well it's likely real, but better photos would help, and wouldn't want to commit without seeing the movement.

Would want to see more details before commenting on value.

seems authentic, production early 1969, movement will be a Valjoux 7734 - might be wrong, but quite unlikely, Roff ?

we do not do "valuations" here, but the 2031 sell rather well, a typical realistic range would be between $/€ 800 and 1200 if fully authenticated.

OK, I guess I would have to take it to a watch dealer to take the back off? This operation is very near me and I could take it there: http://www.watchdoctors.co.uk/

What details would I need to provide?

TY

Any watchmaker can remove the back and clear photos of dial, inside and outside of the caseback and movement will be enough to confirm.

Should be a Valjoux 7734 movement.

Been to the watch guys who took the back off. Their view is that it is all present and correct, although the chronograph needs attention, which they are happy to do for me.

While I was there they photographed the mechanism and gave me a print out. This is a scan of the print, so not best quality.

That looks correct to me.

The watch will need a thorough servicing, we have a watchmaker on the forum who is extremely highly recommended as well and has significant experience with vintage Breitlings.

Yikes! Sorry for the enormous image!

But thank you for the advice, it really is most appreciated. The Watch Doctors say they have a Breitling 'specialist' and can handle the service and chronograph.

I think I am going to sell it though, so I'm debating whether to offer it 'as is' or have it sorted first. I should add I have no box or papers etc.

Do you have any views on the best course?

With pieces like this that don't look like they require a huge amount of work the cost is unlikely to be too high (wary of saying for certain because no one really knows until the movement is disassembled), but it's also unlikely that you will recover the full cost in the form of increased value. Your best bet is likely to sell as is with full disclosure and allow the new owner to get it serviced at their preferred watchmaker.

Hello again.

If I may beg the indulgence of the experts here, I have been asked a question about my watch.

"Look like the the 4 hr in the dial is not correct. Please advise."

I'm not sure what this means. Any help would be appreciated.

The marker (baton) at 4 o'clock is on backwards in relation to the others. The lume tip is on the other end. Good catch.

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but is that fixable?

Looks like I'm going back to the watch doctors in any case.

It's applied to the dial so just needs to be removed, turned around and reapplied - simple fix but will require the movement out of the case and the dial removed from the watch.
