http://www.ebay.fr/itm/PERFECT-AND-VERY ... 3f249417ec

Hi all, at first sight this one caught my eye as it seems strange with an uncommon double wings and all black dial ... And some other pieces of this eBay seller have been shown here as doubtfull...

Uncommon but original, I think. It encases a V178 but apart that the dial looks like on my own 1970 Navi 806-E... and my dial has been supplied to me by A. Wajs so I am 100% sure it is a genuine Breitling .
In total I saw 3 dials like this one : the original one on my Navi 806-E when I bought it , completely ruined by water, the replacement one I bought from A. Wajs - both for a V7736 - and today this one for V178.
Did somebody here see another?

Phil, guy is a crook, so watch is probably franken, just like almost everything else he sells or sold - but he was ripping off sellers too.

search for Durner, Schmitter, enigma, cuervo, Dowhora, FrankenFake Superstore on this site, makes interesting reading

chrono24 closed his account, he finally at least lost his paypal contract, but ebay lets him proceed, even deleting all the negative feedback he had got .......

Yes Fred, I know the fantastic reputation of this guy and the watches he show s on eBay ( Datora 799 , a Chronomat 769 with an awful scale , and others) .
Nevertheless, this all black dial with double plane is interesting , don't you think?

very interesting, Phil - and nice. They might be prototype dials that did not make it into mass production ?

just stating that Mr. Schmitter is not a relevant source to prove originality.

Yes Fred, it is not a good thing to see an interesting dial from such a source . It is the first one that I see for a V178. Any other example known apart mine?

not that I remember, Phil. but I will soon show an 806 that is on the way back from Craig, bought from a reputable watchmaker in Geneva, with another dial I have never seen, although it shows all the signs of Breitling mass production quality, front and back.

So much out there we have not seen yet, of course there were evaluation samples, multiple prototypes before the final decision for the mass production was made; whatever the cynics say, this is how it still is today in product development, even if we have advanced visualization to eliminate a part of this process - and of course some have survived and will surface.

I had a similar issue with one of my Speedmasters with a clear production error on the bezel, called as fake by some experts - until I found just the same misprinted bezel on three excellently documented watches, one in the Omega Museum, on a watch in the Omegamania Antiquorum auction and in one of the leading "bibles" of Omega collectors ..... :D

just had another look at that ebay piece - seems a hodpodge of components, wrong sliderule, poorly refinished subdial hands, sad main hands. would not take this as a reference for anything but the typical Schmitter scam, calling this "perfect condition" :wowzers

There is a long exchange on the IWC forum (on the IWC website) with unbelievable images of a brand new Portuguese Automatic with the 7 and 8 in the wrong positions. Swapped. So errors aren't limited to the old days!
