Without a doubt a horrible, cowardly and hideous act.
I am just amazed at what a meal CNN is making out of it, creating more panic than the bombing itself!

Well, that's the media for you. I hate the news for that reason.. Fox News is the worst.
Thoughts and prayers for the victims and their families..

Not just the media, TV in general has so desensitized us that we need more & more graphic scenes to be "entertained". Just finished watching a Hannibal episode where the current serial killer "planted" his victims in shallow graves & kept them alive to grow mushrooms on their bodies... That is outright twisted, gruesome, disturbing, and (at least to me) NOT entertaining.

I'm just a dumb Canadian but can't wrap my head around how the Boston bombing is three straight days of breaking news, all while gun control legislation fails in the Senate. I say that having seen the numbers tonight of deaths from each over about the last 40 years... approx. 4,000 from terrorists vs. 900,000 gun related. And yes I do understand the politics involved, and that's actually the part I can't wrap my head around, how special interest trumps common sense.

PS: Did CNN ever lead the media idiot parade today, then had to walk it all back. An effort only equal to their coverage of the Supreme Court ruling on health care when they broke the news it had been overturned. Jon Stewart, you have it way too easy!

Some of the problem with "knee jerk" legislation is that there is no common sense. This is how some of the proposed legislation would affect me personally. I'm a law abiding American citizen that legally owns guns. If some of this legislation passes, I could automatically become a fellon. And thats why there is a problem. The new laws only affect/restrict law abiding citizens (not special interest) and not the criminals.

Lets change the subject a bit and see how "knee jerk" legislation looks.
There are numerous laws against robbing banks. If we made new/more laws against robbing banks would it prevent banks from being robbed?

If we made new/more laws against Driving Under the Influence would DUI's stop? Should we create a law that restricts or makes illegal the Make/Model of a vehicle that was used in a DUI? Would that stop it?

If outlawing certain types of guns/magazines/clips will prevent shootings, then it only makes sense that outlawing certain types of vehicles would prevent DUI's, right?
I'm sure there must be a law in place about making bombs out of pressure cookers, but that didn't prevent the tragedy in Boston. Should we outlaw pressure cookers so this won't happen again?

Unfortunately bad people are going to do bad things and thats not going to stop no matter how many laws you impose.

a bunch of loonies, conspiracy theorists and Assad supportes - the same guys that claim that 9-11 was CIA/Mossad .

the claims about that pic you post have been proven wrong - the guy on the pic is not Nick Vogt, but Jeff Baumann.

Might be, but I also do believe 9/11 was CIA/Mossad/Illuminati job.

I think a good first step (not suggesting something has to follow) is background checks, and max 10 bullet clip. That I don't believe in any way should make you a felon unless you're not willing to budge on the larger round clips.

I've heard your same argument many times and it's just not logical to me. If that were the case then why limit anything? ....people are going to still kill people, right? I will agree a 10 bullet magazine limit would have little to no affect in the vast majority of gun deaths, however, you can not say it would not limit the number of victims in the mass shootings, because in some cases it would. With those steps in place it's not going to stop the lunatics, but it sure is better if they have a knife than a gun, or a gun that at least makes them reload. Three lives saved in a gun shooting count every bit as much as three taken in a terrorist attack.

Getting way off topic but what is the percentage break down of deaths with legal versus illegal guns?

I have had a background check done for every gun that I've purchased.

As for limiting clip size you are putting the onus of this legislation on the already law abiding citizen. There are numerous handguns that come standard with clips larger than 10 rounds. Should every law abiding citizen be required to destroy or sell (where?) and then buy new smaller clips to comply with new legislation? They haven't broken any laws.

Again, let me change the subject a bit.
New legislation, all vehicles can only have 100hp max. Should every law abiding citizen be required to re-engine their existing vehicle with a 4 cyl. engine? Sounds ridiculous doesn't it. The only difference is that the minority of people own guns, so it it easy for the majority to get behind this.

I've read (not sure how accurate) that 85% were illegal.

Pretty simple, the NRA just launches another campaign about how the government is coming after their/your guns, buy back a larger clip back and sell 4 more smaller ones. That's partially sarcasm, but not all, because the truth is this is all about money at the end of the day.

What about Bill O'reilly's idea.... anyone carrying an illegal gets a 10 yr. mandatory sentence. I think he even said he was in favor of background checks (which sort of makes sense with that law) but I can't remember 100%. I can't stand him, or anyone on Fox News, but I don't think that's a bad idea. But that sure would cost a whole lot more money than the clips!

If I said what I really think about some of the posts here, not all or even most, but some, I would be banned. Staying miles always from this one and justnpraying that the victims and their families find solace and that the perpetrators, dead or alive, find the wrath they deserve. Beyond that, NO comment.
