Hello everyone, I am new to both this forum and to Breitling watches. I look forward to learning from you all.

A friend of mine has recently offered to sell me one of his Breitling watches. I'm not looking for value information here, because I trust him. However, I would like to know more about the watches and their subtle differences. Remember... I know very, very little about watches. I notice small differences in each, the fonts of the numbers, shape of the watch. Can anyone identify these, would any specific one be considered more or less desirable?

Are they all marked "2509" on the back? Maybe one or a few "2509 29"?

"555" is another possibility.

I will have to ask my friend about what the backs might say. Would that be a serial number, or form of model identification?

That would be the model number. Serial number would likely be on the inside of the caseback.

I wasn't remembering correctly. I think they might be marked as reference number "2914" or "2910 29" with a six-digit serial number on the back or inside the caseback.

A "555" won't have a serial number, inside or out.

2915 is another likely possibility.

Hello everyone, thank you again. I did ask about model numbers, so we'll see in a bit. My understanding is that is an old picture and some of those watches are probably long gone. I hope he still has a couple with the black face!

It is what we suspected I am afraid. They are likely Chinese fakes - a lot of fakes are coming out of China these days that look like that.

I did not know that you suspected that? I'm supposed to get pictures of the movements ect and will post pictures if that helps further prove it. That would be disappointing, but also a relief since I have not bought anything yet.

For what it's worth, the man that I am dealing with has always been a stand up guy. We share a mutual interest in bicycles and he has done me many substantial favors out of generosity. I don't question his character. What I am trying to say is, if they are fakes, he may not know it either.
