The Breitling Watch Source Forums

It seems in every thread several of the members or moderators are bitter with an aspect of most new Breitling watches. The "Buck Rogers" bezel or the new design that is terrible. Then everyone piles on. It's kind of tiring and counterproductive considering many Breitling enthusiast come to this site. I understand everyone is entitled to an opinion but why rehash the same one on every other thread? I don't know of any watch brand that has universally liked models. I certainly don't care for every single model. Good or bad, brands evolve. If you don't care for the model or design change why post about it continually? I'm just trying to understand the mindset here. I do enjoy reading the informative posts on this site regardless.

Personally, I like the diversity of their designs. For me, it's more important that there are a variety of looks to choose from than to have consistency in the brand. I even really like all of the new designs, enough that the new Superocean is what made me buy a Breitling; maybe it's just because I'm barely 20 and never became attached to their more classic designs, as many others have.

The mindset???

Well first you need to understand that this is not a sterile Forum - it is a community.

Second, it is a community which exists under the banner of a Breitling enthusiast website.

Third, it is a website that was started in large part to fill a gap which existed on the Internet - a comprehensive collection of Breitling information.

Fourth, at the time the site was formed and for some years thereafter, most members were quite fond of most Breitling offerings.

Fifth, in the last 3 years the Breitling lineup has drastically changed - not an evolution, but what seems to many a wholesale abandonment of Breitling styling which had in fact evolved over the 25+ previous years. That is, away from brand evolution.

So the community continues but the "love" of the offerings is intermittent at best. I can't tell you the last time I even looked at the Breitling website. Three years ago nary a week went by that I didn't ogle most models on the Breitling site.

I come to this forum for its sense of community and openness and for the wealth of knowledge, collegiality, support, frankness and humor of the members and moderating team.

Makes perfect sense to me.

One way to try and deliver a message to the current Breitling management is through these types of social media forums. Think of them as a sort of customer barometer.
If a message is consistent & happens to be stated more often than not, is that not a solid way to understand the undercurrent of the customer?
It might not make for great reading, but then I can always choose to skip forward in the post.
Whether I like the comments, or even agree with them is somewhat irrelevant. This forum should always remain a place where opinions should be able to be stated, without prejudice.

From what I can see the negative comments come from a variety of different people and don't represent a particular slant or mindset. Could it just be that loads of people think that Breitling's latter day offerings are a bit crap?

That's actually what I like about this place. Other Breitling forums discourage criticism about the brand and so all you see are people patting each other on the back for getting a particular model. This site allows the kind of criticism and free speech that I think may be helpful to Breitling so that they can better determine what we like and don't like from their offerings.

If all you want to see on a Breitling forum are posts like what are you wearing today, or what breitling did you buy today, and then see follow up posts like, oh, beautiful, cool, good choice!...then there are several other Breitling forums that do just that.

I can appreciate your stance against Breitling's current offerings but I wouldn't waste my time on a themed forum dedicated to a brand I could care less about.

Freedom to express opinions.. You need a general consensus in order to like a watch? Don't people have their own right to like/dislike and express that right? If you like a watch what does it matter if any number if other members like or dislike it?

This site is about Breitling... old and new, not just new.

I still own many Breitings and have owned over 50 in the past, but i guess that means I am "wasting my time" on a Breitling themed forum. Of course you left out the rest of my post which explains the history of the the forum. I gave you the benefit of the doubt in responding to your first post. I won't make the same mistake twice.

Don't get me wrong, I like the discussions and the frankness. I am surely one to have strong opinions. The newer line up and model changes are definitely polarizing but after a certain period of time don't you just move on? At the very least once you've stated an opinion just skip over or ignore the post? I guess the redundancy is what I don't understand. I'm sure Breitling does read these forums but they obviously aren't going to change their direction because of a handful of people on a watch forum.

This is surely a great point. I do enjoy that about this place.

Again I understand that. No need to be sensitive.

I'm sure none of us are here participating under the delusion that we are going to change Breitling's decisions and direction. If I don't like a model I am free to express that opinion as often as I choose; are we to suppress our feelings because we're worried that someone such as yourself may get tired of the negativity or should we be free to express our thoughts so long as they are presented in accordance with the forum rules?
