Hi, came across a query in another forum about the Breitling clocks used in Bentley dashboards and how it could just be a marketing gimmick since it can be electronically set from the car. Would like to know to what extent Breitling was involved in it's development and if Breitling was responsible, which I always believed was the case, what Breitling movement it uses and how it interfaces with the car to be electronically set. It would be quite disappointing to both Breitling and Bentley customers if all Breitling designed was the dial and housing with no Swiss watchmaking internals involved, here's their website
http://www.breitlingforbentley.com/en/b ... entley-0-0

Thanks

Possibly. Is there evidence to suggest this is the case?

I understand that Breitling has redesigned a new Swiss clock for Bentley so I would take it that the entire creation is Breitling. I don't know what movement is in it but unless it's their own in house movement(which I doubt as the clock is powered by the car and not mechanical), it's as Breitling as it can be. If it'ss to be accepted that it is a "Swiss" clock and it is going into something of the quality of a Bentley, I wouldn't think it's any old "tat" that's inside the case.

I suppose the same question could be asked in relation to Jaeger-LeCoutre for their contribution to Aston Martin. :shock:

The only thing heard so far is that the clocks set from the cars controls and even can do atomic time so makes me wonder what Breitling was involved with besides the dial and housing. I have looked everywhere but there is no information on the watches internals.

Hey Guys,

Very interesting points being made here. For my part though, I know nothing about this subject, so I am just blue sky thinking. I hope you can put up with my thoughts, which I can surmise here, if it helps. See what you think;

1. Probably the control mechanism is radio controlled from GPS or satellite (would that be right for what is being said about an atomic clock test, do you think?). If so, who would you consider the leaders and most prolific with this type of technology? I have my thoughts on this, but I don’t come up with a Swiss supplier. Without prejudice though, it maybe, (I don’t get to review every brand and every watch offering as there is not enough time), but only one or two makers stand out in this area that I can think of. Perhaps I am wrong, and that it is a Swiss supplier or Breitling themselves afterall.

2. As has been passionately debated on the source in the past few weeks, Swiss made might mean, in this case, down to 60% made in Switzerland and up to 40% made elsewhere. But, once again it may equally be 100% made in Switzerland. Thing is, how would you be able to tell unless you took the thing apart! No one is saying, so who knows!

I would say its most likely Swiss designed from the face back into the mechanism, or at least the hard points into the dash and the inclusions would be Brietlings, I am sure. From the face forward though, I think it would be a Dirk Van Braekel creation or perhaps anyone of three Brits who lead the Interior Design Team. Lisa Reeves, Ben Quaintance or Jonathan Punter (assuming they were involved). It would be a co-operation between the car designer and the watch designer but the overall effect would be led from the Bentley side, I woudl think. Breilting probably are happy in that they do their best work with the item on your wrist, so might be happy to let the car designers take a lead role in the dashboard item.

They look pretty cool whatever the origin or design. What are your thoughts.
