I'm not an expert, but I do know that the Breitling quartz watches are amone the best in the industry. I guess I would go so far as to say a high-end quartz movement, that is thermo-compensated. That is, accuracy at almost any temperature.

I had a Breitling Colt Quartz for about 7 years, early to late 90s, and it never missed a beat. The battery life is extremely good, I just can't remember how many years.

Cheers,
Carl

Battery life on that model and the later (non-chrono) Colt is 8 yrs. Exceptionally good. Can just be replaced at each full service without any extra hassle.

I had one one and loved it; still kicking myself for selling it, and am now looking to replace it.

You can not really go wrong with a Breitling quartz watch as long as your wife likes the look of the Colt with the rider tabs.
I do not personally have any experience with Breitling quartz movements but I can't imagine it being any worse than any other good quality Swiss quartz movement.
I remember a few years ago taking my quartz Universal Geneve to a jewelry shop for a battery change in Perth. When I picked the watch up an hour later the jeweler said "that is a very nice watch you have there Sir" to which I responded that it is just a quartz watch. He looked at me and said "no sir, not all quartz watches are the same, this one is very nice". I'm sure the same goes for the Breitling quartz.
As a matter of fact, if your wife is anything like my wife than a quartz watch is a perfect choice.
Unlike me, my wife only wears a watch when she goes out.
I bought her a nice Rolex Datejust and it was a complete waste of time as she just complains all the time saying "look, it stopped again". :-(
Now I need to buy her a watch winder!!!

Ah yes, the rider tabs will catch sweaters every now and then

Just remember with quartz movements when they are discontinued replacements can become hard to impossible to replace. When a quartz movement goes bad it usually requires replacement.

Cheers!

Breitling have committed to maintaining modern quartz / SQ movements for a minimum of 20 years beyond the point that they stop using them.
