Rolex make (and have made) thousands and thousands of watches every year and the Daytona is no exception. Rolex are one of the most prolific watch manufacturers in the world and any "rarity" claims are entirely of Rolex's design as they often artificially restrict supply. AD's are guilty of proliferating that perception as well (as I have experienced first-hand with a Subbie LV many years ago).

That said, they do always sell for good money on the second-hand market (predominantly IMO because of the perceived rarity), so in many respects it is something of a no-brainer if resale is a consideration....but bear in mind the rarity is only perceived.

Personally (and apologies to any Daytona owners here) I've always found it to be a wildly over-rated and over-priced watch, but as always it's each to their own.
