I have wound my Colt a few different times this morning and it stops soon after. I wound it 40 times first thing this morning, and it stopped, when I went to set it I wound it 50 times again, and it died soon after. Am I going crazy or does it need a service?

As the watch starts and then stops it's unlikely to be out of beat - that would likely mean that it didn't start at all. Therefore the logical assumption is that something is causing inertia in the running train that is too much for the energy from the mainspring to overcome. That could be dirt, an increase in friction due to the oils aging or any number of other factors but likely is an indication that a service is needed.

I keep it in a watch box when it's not on my wrist, and I've only had it one year! I hope the rest of my Breitlings aren't like that!

Does it sit for extended periods of time not running? If so then the oils can easily migrate. When was the production date? - http://www.breitlingsource.com/articles_dating.shtml

Also, if it was only bought a year ago then it should still be under warranty.

Well, it's running now, just set it so I'm going to see if it's running fast or slow too.

It will sit for a few days, nothing crazy though. I purchased it in Feb of 2012, production date seems to be 49 of '06.

Did you buy it new or s/h? - not therefore quite sure what the warranty situation is. But either way the watch is of course six-seven years old, which is the point at which people often have the overhaul service done. Might be worth pressing to see if that could be done gratis under any warranty.

I purchased it new, filled the warranty card out and recieved my hat from Breitling. LOL

It's working just fine now, but still, if it does it again I'm sending it back to BUSA.

I doubt that it has fixed itself - it's right in the middle of a service window (6+ years old) and under warranty - solution seems obvious!

It's a year old to you but it's over six years old to it, with the complete overhaul service due. The bonus of buying a watch that's been sitting in stock in this way is that you can seek to get the overhaul service done under the warranty.

Would a complete overhaul be necessary in a situation like this or should a basic service be sufficient?
The watch might be 6+ years old but from wear and tear perspective it is only one year old.
I would think that a basic clean, oil and gaskets change would be enough. Or?

It would likely only get a basic service under warranty anyway. There is unlikely to be a need for case refinishing, but potentially the wear could be bad - if the watch has been sitting for 5 years in the same position and never wound - i.e. in a showcase / safe at an AD, then the oils could easily have migrated and the watch has created wear in the running train. Bottom line is that Breitling will open it up and do what's required - but no more because they will be paying.

It's been running since yesterday and keeping excellent time. But, I still think I will send it in for a basic tune-up. I'm afraid that there could be some extra wear if the oils are where they are suppose to be. I'm not going to act like I know what I'm talking about though.

Doubtful.

What do you mean by "shortly after"? Before sending it off, id give it 100+ winds, just to make sure that your definition of a wind is the same as Breitlings definition. Since you cant overwind it, go for 150 or so, just to be sure its being wound enough.
