How much you pay for a Pam 118 on the second hand market. I have referenced chrono24 at prices they are going for. I'm asking other members how much they would pay. I would like to pickup the piece I'm the 3k range, but feel that the owner might find my offer insulting. Just trying to pickup a piece at a price that I could flip after wearing it for a bit. Opinions??

If you're already planning to flip it, I don't see the point in buying it.

Well I would have worn till it sold. I don't know what's with these panerai guys thinking their almost ten year old watch is worth 80% of the retail value!!

If its a genuine Pam 118, then don't try going so low as to insult the seller. Thats the last thing you would want to do and being a member here I would grant that you would not do that anyway. Resist the temptation if it comes up though.

I can't help but feel you would have a bit of trouble flipping this and making some dollars, wouldn't you? Its a restricted market so you are at the mercy of a select few buyers wanting this one. They are more likley to buy new aren't they?

Just a thought.

Jim

The guy is selling the watch on craigslist. I wasnt thinking I was going to make a fortune on it. 500 bucks is good enough for me, or breaking even while wearing it for a bit. I just looking at buying and selling watches without losing money. Just getting to wear variety of watches, but it's hard to buy watches at good value.

Yep, sure is. Even harder to keep up given that the internet makes it so easy to research the particular model you might want to sell or buy. Everyone knows the value and are all looking for a benefit. You need a point of difference.

Keeping a watch until the market goes a bit cool on your selected model may spark real interest once you decide to pass it on. So wearing for a few years might achieve this. The upside of being on online is that you can sense when a rare model, or one in perfect condition, comes up for sale just as to how much interest there really is.

My view is, you watch the market, do the recon and strike at the right time.

Good luck.

Jim

I hear what your Saying Jim. Like I said I live in vancouver and I'm new to the watch game. All the second had dealers out here want to much for second hand watches, and I look on craigslist. It's hard to find a hookup I guess is what I'm saying. I have cash not unlimited so that's why I'm looking for watches at a reasonable price.

Tons of fake Panerais out there, and Craigslist would without a doubt be the absolutely last place on earth I'd look for a genuine piece to be honest...

:yeahthat

Panerai are one of the brands that continually retain a high resell value. Some of the newer models (LEs like the 382 Bronzo) command 2x the retail price or more. It's all based on popularity, demand and workmanship of the product.

Want a cheap (er) swiss watch... go get a 10 yr old Datejust. Good watch, but lower demand and less popular... :)

In general Panerai owners buy the watches to wear and enjoy them. Some regularly upgrade to the next model, but the model they currently have is still popular. So the market price reflects that.

I don't think pam 118 commands such a high resale value or a Pam 112. I can understand the inhouse movement models holding their value.

A Pam 111 or 112 are still extremely popular models. For a lot of fans those are entry pieces and for others the smaller size of those models suit smaller wrists that can't (or shouldn't) pull off the 1950's case of some of the new in house models.

Pricing really boils down to the fact that the brand IS extremely popular and there are a ton of folks like you....like me, that like Panerai. Demand commands the price. The only problem I see with Panerai is the strong urge to own another one!

Base Pams are always in demand like Bronco said. I'd skip craigslist and check with the dealers on paneristi. They usually have an assortment and can usually negotiate on price.
