It might have been a couple of years ago, but there was some discussion about how credit card extended warranty coverages work, and I think the consensus was that they would not cover watches.

Fast forward to a couple of months ago, and I had a problem with a Breitling a few months out of warranty. Sent it to BUSA and got the hefty bill. Anyway, I remembered the discussion and gave my CC a call. They said theyd cover it if I sent them the necessary paperwork (original receipt, warranty info, paid invoice, CC statement). Got an email a couple of days ago saying that they had approved the claim and that as soon as I send them the paid invoice (im waiting on that from BUSA...watch should be back to me in a couple of days), they would send me a reimbursement check.

Great success!

This was with a Visa Signature card.

I must have missed the previous discussion you alluded to. This is a really interesting idea; I'm happy to hear it worked out for you. My Chronomat 01 has some serious issues that BUSA never correctly fixed, but it's out of warranty now. It was bought with an AmEx. Thanks for the tip. I'm going to look into this.

Im surprised nobody but bozman finds this to be interesting. Maybe I should point out that this extended warranty coverage is free. No cost, no registration, nothing... Just buy it on your card and its automatically covered.

Or maybe im just the last person to figure this out.

RJ, I'm surprised too. Weird . . .

Thunderbirds, I don't believe the CC company will pay for servicing, as this is a routine maintenance thing. However, if your watch develops a problem outside the 2-year warranty period, this is something they would pay to have repaired. RJ can add more color to this, but this is my understanding.

Basically the credit card company doubles the warranty (up to 1 year) on whatever you buy with the card. My watch got majorly screwed up a couple months after the 2 year warranty expired, so I called up my CC and they explained how it works. You pay Breitling for the repair, and then the CC company sends you a reimbursement check.

I guess the original warranty has to be 3 years or less though. So it wouldnt apply to 01 movements with the 5 year warranty.

In case anybody cares, I got my reimbursement check in the mail. Its pretty awesome to me. I put everything on my card, so this is just another layer of protection.
