Hi guys,

Great forum. Right, I have a problem, I'm torn between buying a Steelfish with black dial(which I love) now, or waiting for an Avenger Skyland, also with black dial.

I'm a big watch fan and this would be my first big buy, as it's the first time I can afford a decent watch, and I've been on the hunt for months.

This would be worn all the time apart from work, and would be kept on my wrist for years. I want it to be a classic watch that will stand the test of time (excuse the pun).

Anyway, I know it's a personal coice, but I thought I'd ask you guys because you all seem to know what you're talking about.

I also like the Omega Speedmaster pro (hope you don't think less of me!)

If I could have just one...

I would go with the Steelfish. You can wear it with shorts and a t-shirt, diving, working, mowing the lawn. You can also put it on a black calf strap and dress it up for more formal occasions.

To me it's the best all around Breitling. The Avenger Skyland can be a little much for 24/7 wrist wear.

So I say Steelfish, bracelet, diver pro, leather and your set for everything.

A lot will disagree with me on this, but that's my .02.

You'll enjoy either one and congrats on your soon to be first Breitling purchase.

Skyland for me. Ive owned both, and the skyland gets the nod. Both are amazing, but I just love the big polished skyland. It should come down to your taste, as I think both should stand the test of time. Breitling seems to believe in the skylands dial design, as theyve recently added the same look to the new Seawolf.

In short, you cant go wrong either way. i think both will serve you well indefinitely, so just get the one you like more.

I'd go for the Steelfish. I've got my eyes on the black dial Steelfish as well and it does really look nice. The Avenger Skyland is nice, but for the extra money, unless you're going to use the chrono features, you can save a lot and just go with the Steelfish. The big difference besides the dial are the fact that the Steelfish is brushed while the Skyland is polished. I know a member on here named Carl has a Steelfish and a Skyland, maybe he can give you the best review of each watch.

If you prefer the Skyland (even slightly) then perhaps the sensible advice is to wait and get it... But I think I'd buy the Steelfish and take the chance that I'll be back at the AD buying Breitling number 2 at some point in future. The fish is an awesome watch.

By the way, nothing wrong with liking the Speedy. Omegas are great.

I would recommend trying them both on though and seeing which one calls out to you....

I know my vote is a little biased but I like the Avenger Skyland. I would recommend if possible to try both on at your AD and see which one really speaks to you. You hear this a lot on this forum, but it's the truth. The Avenger Skyland is a nice heavy watch and just looks the business on the SS ProII bracelet. I have recently purchased a black Diver Pro and it looks great on this as well. I like the dial a little bit more on the AS. The complications on the dial and the pushers just make this watch stand out just a tad bit more IMO. Tough choice as they are both great watches. No matter what you decide you can always pinch and save to get the other one at another time. You will just have something to work towards!

Regarding your comment about the Omega, the Railmaster XXL has caught my eye the last few times I have seen it sitting there in the dealers case. I hear it saying, "please buy me, you know I will look good on your wrist with my large black dial and contrasting dark brown leather strap"!

Breitling Avenger Skyland (Black)

Both are really great watches, but as an everyday watch I'm gonna have to go with the Steelfish. (Obviously I'm biased here, but then I bought it because I really do love it!)

I think that if you want a classic watch that will stand the test of time, then the Steelfish slightly edges it over the Skyland due to the dial IMHO. The Fish has the classic round diver's watch style markers, while the stencil numbers on the Skyland are very much "of the moment". I'm not saying they will date as the stencils are hardly over-the-top or wacky(!), and I persoanlly really like then, BUT I just think the diver's markers are marginally more classic. The Steelfish dial is great as it treads the line between hardcore diver's "tool" watch and something more dressy.

Secondly there just aren't many non-chronograph models in the Breitling line-up, so the Fish is a nice addition in that respect, especially if you don't need a chronograph on a daily basis (and frankly, who does!)

Thirdly, while tend to gravitate more to the polished Breitlings, the brushed finish on the Fish gives it an understated look that you can wear absolutely anywhere.

Also as one of the other guys has said, the Fish is cheaper, leaving more cash to save up for your next one!

Somehow I think you've just summarised the whole damn lot!

I'm still not sure what "the" Ling for me is, buts as hard as I looked, I couldn't find a reason why I would regret buying a Steelfish.

If you want durability over the years, Drivers advice are spot on. If you ask more for the present, I'd answer AS as I like the appearance more than the Steelfish. But over a few years... Maybe the Steelfish wins the battle in the end.

I think our fearless leader offered you some sage advice; you
should heed it. As for my own 2-cents worth, I own both watches,
and I love them both. But if I were forced (God forbid! ) to own just
one, it would have to be the Fish.

The Skyland is a sparkling joy to wear. But the Fish can do it all --
take you diving to depths you can't believe, handle knocks and shocks with ease,
and fit into a nice social scene without raising an eyebrow.
Plus it's $1,500 cheaper!

If I were you, I'd head down to your AD and do a little serious "fishing."
Just don't forget the bait -- you know, that stuff in your wallet.
