I did get some more information on how it came about. It turns out that to help maintain wait times at an acceptable level, some watches were being sent to Switzerland for the overhaul to be completed. Mine was one of those and it was stolen whilst in the possession of the courier company.

It is on the stolen register, so will no doubt eventually get recovered by Breitling when someone takes it for a service in a few years - i sent the COSC certificate back to Breitling, as i always think it mad when people sell the paperwork to their stolen watches just builds up future problems for unsuspecting buyers.
