Guys for yr info Archie bought a Super Ocean later on and posted another video on his review on it. In this video he mentioned that he took back his words saying that Breitling is not a true luxury brand saying that he was wrong.

Basically Archie is someone who is looking for recognition because he feels that nobody shares his sentiments and appreciates his watch collection. I think some of his collection might have been looked down by many that he feels that anyone who doesn't appreciate his watches do not know about watches. He chooses to vent his frustrations on youtube and also stressing how good his watches are....Some of you might know that he is a Patek Philippe fan and would find every way to pin down every other brand in order to emphasize that his "holy grail" PP Calatrava is the "best watch" in the world(although he has other watches from different brands). He does that in many of his clips. His views are rather biased and most of the time his reviews are not really constructive, not because he has criticized Breitling before but because he doesn't really explain why certain watches are good or bad but just spends most of the time cursing before coming back to stress once again that his Patek is the best watch in the world.

Well there is no universal definition of the "best watch" in the world in my opinion. Definitely we do not define best watch by it's price tag too. It all comes down to individual preferences. But when you are talking about luxury watches, if you do not define Breitling as a luxury brand then luxury watch dealers wouldn't be selling Breitling watches. Then Rolex and Omega are not luxury watches too(because I categorise Rolex and Omega in the same grade of watches as Breitling). Correct me if I'm wrong.

WTF is a luxury watch anyway? One mans luxury is another's garbage. I don't regard my Lings as luxury items, they are essential items!

Lately, he spends most of his YouTube time panhandling for donations because times they are a bit tough for old Archie. The fact that we are even debating a position taken by this measly weasel makes me want to barf.

Didnt realise this guy was well hated as im new to these types of forums.

It goes to show how subjective taste for watches are!

So it looks like his main 'beef' with Breitling is the fact that they use bought-in movements.

OK, disregarding that Breitling now make their own in-house movement, and that the ETA movements were heavily modified, I don't think he has a valid criticism; because basically the ETA movements do a good job. My Chronomat uses the Calibre 13; it works well, I like it - is it noisy? Well I am not sure, but I don't think hearing the movement every now and then when it winds itself up is a bad thing. It would be like marking down the McLaren F1, arguably the greatest car of all time, just because it uses a BMW engine.

Like most on here I don't think his comments are valid. And why on earth did he buy two Breitlings, if he is criticising them for aspects that were well known; it is not hidden or a secret that the watches he bought had ETA movements.

If he likes Patek Phillipe, then great - I like my Breitlings, but he should keep his opinions to himself really.

One final thing - how do we define what a luxury watch is? Well I would say it is a watch that goes beyond the basic objective of what a watch is, ie a thing that tells the time, is an object of desire, and costs far more than a watch that simply serves the purpose of telling the time. I think Breitlings are definately that. They are pretty much hand made, using in many cases materials that are precious metals. You don't need use gold or platinum in a device that simply tells the time; so yes, Breitling is a luxury watch brand; Rolex also, but a £9.99 Casio is not.

I seem to remember this cretin posting a complaint here a few years ago about a Louis Vuitton suitcase he'd bought online. When the package turned up at his house, he opened it to find nothing but a large box of laundry detergent and no suitcase.

Hilarity ensued.

Archie makes me laugh. Other than having a very skewed point of view of the importance of "luxury goods", his in particular and a self inflated ego because of all the great used deals he's gotten...he's harmless. At least I never felt like he got too personal, but then again I didn't read every post. Always good for a laugh though and a lot of fun to mess with.
