Man, were it me and if my wrist wasn't just 6&1/2, I'd ante up $1600 - the difference between the RRP of the SO44 and Avenger - and get an Avenger! Pretty big upgrade and IMO an awesome watch. Pre-owned Steelfish rarely fetch $2k regardless of condition. That's still a 35% discount which is essentially unattainable these days. If, though, your AD would buy the SO 44 for what they normally pay Breitling- about $2300 (not the $3900 RRP they do not pay) - and give you 20% off on an Avenger, to follow the example through, you will still be paying about $2,100 extra. So it would depend on the discount on the new piece you choose, but you are likely better off financially to go with offer, unless you are jumping up to a much pricier piece like the B01 models - the higher the RRP of the model you choose from Breitling the more the math changes towards dealing with you AD.

Sharkman - absolutely right. The super avenger is the only current model that appealed to me as I already have a Chronomat.

Just came to a fair resolution with Breitling (UK) about an hour ago - will provide details when I get home.

If you're interested in a trade, I have a black dial Steelfish in really good shape. There is some light scratching on the bezel which I could photograph for you. I kind of like the submariner look of the superocean 44. Anyway, let me know. Sorry to hear this happened to you!

I must thank Breitling (UK) and in particular Jenny, the customer services advisor, and Nicki the customer services manager. They understood my reasons for not wishing to have an SO44 or a Seawolf and as obtaining a used SOSF was not an option, we reached a fair and amicable agreement.

After trying suitable alternatives, i have selected a Super Avenger with the Hurricane white dial and steel bracelet. Although i was asked to pay the difference between the RRPs of the SO44 and the SA, they have applied a very generous discount to this figure.

So after the disappointment of the last two days, i am now looking forward to receiving my new SA next week :lingsrock:

If you file an insurance claim, you can use the cheque
to cover your expenses for the replacement watch.

Good luck finding a pre-owned Steelfish! Not many out there and pricey.

Cheers.

Just read you resolved the issue. Awaiting pics.

So the Super Avenger arrived today, absolutely beautiful - love it! :D

and quite a few Breitling "firsts" for me:

1. New box - glad i still have the old steelfish Bakelit box as the new boxes are not an improvement.
2. Watch that comes with a polishing cloth, bezel protector, correct hang tag and all protective wrapping.
3. A warranty card that has the suppling dealer listed as Breitling UK.
and finally........
4. The trade invoice with the cost price of the watch to an AD - don't think they intended to do that
