SLRdude, those are some very, very nice photos.

Back on topic, I see the Hublot hate (and I believe its warranted), but I cant help but still be drawn to them. Many of them are pretty interesting looking, although they are absurdly priced for what they are. My biggest concern would be that the novelty would wear off very quickly.

BTW, who is Mr. October?

Man RJ you need to watch the WWURW thread. :poke:

I agree about Hublot - I truly like some of their simpler unglorified Big Bang models even if they seem seriously over-priced. They are too big for me though. But I came very close to getting a 41mm Fusion model with a SS case and RG bezel and a simple stark black 3 hand/date dial. In fact, I still may one of these days. I opted that day for a Zenith 1/10 sec El Primero. Mistake! That jerky chrono seconds hand drove me batty and it was resold in two weeks even if it was a feat. I think I would still have that Hublot....if....

1) Catier- They've always struck me as more of a fashion watch with modified ETA calibers that can only command high prices for their use of gold and a the name.
2) Tag- Although I wouldn't really classify them as a luxury piece due to the basic movements and lower price points other people seem to be pointing them in that category so I'll jump on that hater bandwagon. Plus they always seem to be worn by some unsavory characters.. No offense to those of you who enjoy them, simply my opinion.
3) U-Boat- First and foremost the size is an immediate turnoff. I love my Breitlings but U-Boat takes it to the next level, I have never been a fan of having a sun dial on my wrist. Secondly everything I have read and experienced with the brand points to them being unreliable and prone to breaking. Particularly the rotors spontaneously falling off.

Wont argue with 2 and 3, but step into a Cartier boutique and youll be blown away by the current stuff theyre doing. Theyve got some absolutely spectacular things going on. Among the best, imho.

And a lot of in house movements, not modified ETA pieces. Cartier also has an extremely long and illustrious history of high end watchmaking.

Tag and U-Boat aren't really in a high end conversation in my opinion with the exception of one or two of the more recent Tag innovations.

While I agree that Cartier is pretty much on the cutting edge of horlogerie in terms of product, rumor has it they're having some of their stuff developed by others, among which one might find Parmigiani for example.

I really am not sure if there is anything to it, but Roff might be able to provide some insight here (?), he usually knows far more than I get to hear in such matters.

Cartier has a manufacture facility in La Chaux de Fonds. Cartier is part of Richemont group and it makes sense that there will be cross pollination of the different Richemont companies but Cartier makes movements from simple to tourbillon.

Well not to nitpick but Jay-Z has his own watch from Audemars Piguet. Jay has actually a very decent collection himself.
