Hi

The clasp on my Aerospace broke and the watch fell from my hip level to the floor.



This cracked the LCD display.



Have had a quote from Breitling of £369 to replace the clasp (honestly) - they cant replace just the piece with the broken hinge. Then its £232 as an opening it up/service charge plus £135 for the module = £736.

Watch is over 10 years old. and although it has sentimental value, I cant justify or afford that spend or in fact even believe it offers value (and what if it falls again?!). So the question is could the hinge be repaired and could (as has been mentioned elsewhere) I fit a Tissot movement in it by a non Breitling dealer?

Its a shame but I guess all good things come to an end if not.

I'd get the module changed by Breitling and wear it on a strap.

Then, place a WTB, and keep a look out for a replacement clasp or bracelet.

Did the watch internals also break from the drop to the floor? If not, and the watch still works, just remove the bracelet and wear it on a strap. Then, take your time and look for a replacement clasp so that one day you can put the watch back on the bracelet one day if you prefer it that way.

EDIT: Sorry...I just read that the LCD display broke. Ok, then in that case, you'll need to replace the unit.

I think it came on a strap but I had a bracelet fitted and also ended up with the strap too - not quite sure as was a while ago. Will check the back of some 10 drawers out!

To be honest though I'm done with the big expenses of this watch after a recent other £600 fix for water ingress, so I just want less hassle and worry with something perfectly fine as a similar quartz watch from Citizen or Seiko maybe

If you want a hassle free watch, a SKX007 is hard to beat! IMO if you have second watch I would wear that and put a 'search trigger' on eBay for the bracelet. I'd also occasionally search forums. It will probably take a while to find one for that model but sooner or later it will pop up and likely for a good price.

Maybe I'll just put the Breitling up for bits - the caliber is only about 8 months old and if a clasp is £380 I wouldn't want to guess what they charge for the titanium bracelet itself.

I could have it refurbed and add new riders for about £800 and then maybe sell for £1200? But I wouldn't be able to sell it though (sentimental) so I'd have to starve the kids instead

You can't go wrong with the Promasters. They are beefy as can be. Another possibility is that a watchmaker or a metalworker could potentially weld it...that part I believe is stainless steel and not Ti, which would simplify it a bit. You occasionally find small mom and pop shops that can do amazing things for a good price so its a possibility maybe??
