Not a fan of Beckham, he has shown IMHO a poor choice in watches in the past. No doubt he'll be sporting all of the horrible Breitling models we've seen in the past few years.............

I could care less if they hired Big Bird or Mickey Mouse as the next ambassador. It has no impact on my buying decision. Who cares!

On the contrary, I could care.

I am off to find my 3rd Rolex.

If someone buys a watch or chooses not to buy a watch based on who the brand ambassador is then that's just idiotic.

I wouldn't buy a lot of watches if they were highly represented by people I disliked. i.e. Snooki, Paris Hilton, Mel Gibson, Bernie Madoff, Hitler and the list goes on...

I disagree and I think all marketing people would too.

Yes, the average Joe may be persuaded to buy a certain item depending on who the spokesperson/brand ambassador is. If a WIS is persuaded/dissuaded based on a spokesperson then your not a WIS at all.

People love Rolex yet one of their ambassadors is a womanizing adulterer. Who cares who the brand uses in their ads, if you like a watch buy it regardless of who's face they use to sell pieces. I can't stand Travolta's movies but still love some Breitling watches.

I can't stand bees, I'm highly allergic to them, but ill eat Honey Nut Cheerios by the boxful even though their brand ambassador is buzz the honey bee. This is a stupid conversation.

What the #### is an ambassador? :)

I can honestly say I have never based an interest in or purchase of a watch in any brand on who is wearing the watch for advertising purposes.

Now, I became interested in Breitling because I was fascinated by the watch on DiCaprio's wrist in Blood Diamond, but that isn't the same thing. It was more that the watch spent so much time in, on and around Jennifer Connolly. Oy, here we go again.

It is all about Brand awareness, not about me or you wanting to buy a particular watch because David B is wearing one.
Believe it or not but there are huge markets where Breitling has very little presence and recognition.
Put some celebrity figure on a billboard and people start looking at it. It is an eye magnet, maybe not for everyone but for majority of people. Yes, we are like that as a species, we are attracted to fame.
Now put a brand next to the face and suddenly people start getting familiar with it.
Tell people that it is an "Instrument for Professionals" or for "Worldclass Travelers" and people start believing in it.
It sinks into their subconscious mind a bit like a subliminal message.
The rest is history.
There are of course exceptions.
For Tom and I it is enough to put it "in, on and around Jennifer Connolly" ;-)
