Welcome to the Forum Jimmy.

Hopefully you will get a lot of views on where to start on your first Breitling. I think you might need to give a little more info though, as there are as many opinions and suggestions here as there are Breitling models. It all depends on what you prefer in a watch, what use the watch might have in your world, and what your budget is. Of course, style and personal preference also are high on the list.

For me, I love anything with a rotating slide rule. Not that you really need a slide rule these days, but to me the watch maker thought of this instrument as more than just a time piece. That counts for a lot IMHO.

Do you prefer quartz or mechanical movements? Do you prefer a watch that is as comfortable to wear with a rubber, leather or metal bracelet, or does it not matter. Do you do a lot of overseas trips or have business in other countries. If so, perhaps a world timer might be on your list.

If you are planning to bag a few Breitlings, then perhaps start simple and grow into a bigger collection alter. Would you prefer a pre-owned watch or something new?
You can’t go past a Chronomat or a Colt for simplicity and elegance, but I can never resist a Navitimer myself. Quartz are not my thing, but they may be yours, so consider one of Breitlings excellent quartz watches, perhaps with an ana digi display.

So here goes my suggestions;
Chromomat
Sky Racer
Navitimer

Whatever you chose, you can’t loose.

Jim

Welcome! In my opinion one thing to take into consideration is how you wear your watches and what you are looking for style wise. Breitling polished bracelets imo are mangets for scratches even more so than most others out there. IF you are looking for a entry level ling and plan on using it as a daily beater i would look around for some of the brushed models. If you plan on taking very good care of it polished all the way. The lings flash like no other in the high polish finish. As with any watch, the more compilations the faster price goes up, so if you are looking for a bargain on an entry level probably won't find any chono autos for a "bargain". My favorite entry levels are:

1. Colt Auto
2. Superocean (remember 42 mm are polished and 44 mm are brushed. I saw my first polished 44 mm at an AD the other day and was completely surprised)
3. Steelfish

Those to me are entry level bargains and you can scoop up usually at a good price. Just an FYI I am sure you know this with any watches, but in my personal experience Breitling quartz movements take a HUGE hit in the secondary market (more so than most imo), so if you decide to buy one make sure to keep that in mind when negotiating price.

Like Jim said though, with a little more info in regards to what you will use it for and price point I think you will get a lot of response and direction from everyone here.
