Hello, I'm new to the forum!

My wife wanted to get me a gift to commemorate my 30th birthday and first Father's Day as a father, so I dipped my toe into the water of beautiful watches and purchased a Breitling Colt II Automatic from an AD in Arizona.

I followed the instructions to the letter in preparing my watch to wear. Wound it and wore it, and it lost six seconds a day. Not too bad.

When September 1 came around I wound the watch again and adjusted the date. Again, it lost six seconds a day.

October 1, same procedure. Only this time it began losing nine seconds a day. Now I'm getting a little concerned.

November 1, same procedure. This time it has begun losing 12 seconds a day.


I'm really at a loss as to how to proceed. I did tons of research in settling on the model of watch I ultimately wanted. Once I settled on the Colt II, it became obvious that tracking one down would be tough, and so I sent out a few Emails to AD in hopes of finding one that had been sitting under the glass for some time. Living in Oklahoma, I only had so many options, but I was able to track one down in Arizona.

With my watch losing this much time it obviously falls outside the COSC parameters, so what should I do? Should I take it to a local AD here in Oklahoma? Should I call the AD I purchased the watch from in Arizona? Or should I go directly to Breitling Customer Service?

I've read and reread the instructions on winding the watch, and I don't believe I've missed a step. If anything, I may be giving it TOO many turns.

All that said, I love this watch. It's absolutely beautiful.

You can't overwind it so you aren't giving it too many turns.

If it were consistent then I would say to take it to a local AD with watchmaker and have them regulate it, and that's probably still the first step. However, if the watch was sitting for some time at the AD then it may be approaching it's service window. It might be worth checking the manufacture date, instructions here - http://www.breitlingsource.com/articles_dating.shtml

Thanks for the tips! I checked the band and found "S2107", so that would put it in May/June of 2007.

I guess that's not too far away from the service window. No telling how long it set underneath the glass in Arizona.

Definitely worth getting it serviced under warranty.

You can do either, most people contact BUSA directly. Make sure that you tell them that it is over 5 years old, losing 12 seconds a day and getting worse and that it is still under warranty.
