Not sure if you guys have seen one of these yet.

We have just received our three that we ordered. There will only be 1000 of these made.

The Chronospace has always been waaayyy too big for me. I'm not a quartz (even superquartz) fan but I do like these.

The Blacksteel Mesh bracelet is very cool.

Whaddya you guys think?

Awfully predictable but I do think it looks ok. FAR too big though, sadly.

Sorry, should have been more specific.

I was wondering if you guys had seen this in the flesh yet.

It does look so much better than the press pictures highlighted here earlier in the year.

Hi Rick,
What's that bracelet going to look like after a few years of ware?

I fear the answer is a four letter word that starts with an "s", ends with a "t", and has an "h" and an "i" in the middle.

So looking at the recent models being DLC'd, surely the Navitimer Black Steel is just around the corner................

There have been some good testamonials on this very forum about the long lasting durability of the DLC cased Breitlings and the DLC pushbutton clasps.

The bracelet should get no more hard knocks in its lifetime than the case or clasp so it should stand up in my opinion.

The clasp will be able to be recoated should the worst happen and the average person will get three spare links with the watch so I really wouldn't let the possibility of scuffs and scratches put anyone off.

Thanks Ricardo. I think this watch is kick a--

Honestly it would be at home in any cockpit. Don't know how the clasp in black would last. I know my airwolf clasp is very much scratched from daily wear. Any way, if I had to buy a new Breitling today, this one would be it.

Cheers
Brez

While not super creative, I think it looks good. However, it's not for me.

While I don't know much about Breitling's DLC, items I have used with DLC coatings have been exceptionally durable even when exposed to high wear, high friction, and high temp applications. Certain DLC coatings greatly extend bit life for tooling saving time and money. It will likely be far more durable than their standard finishes.

While watchmakers may use DLC coatings for looks, DLC offers real performance enhancements against abrasion...

The hardest, strongest, and slickest is such a mixture, known as tetrahedral amorphous carbon, or ta-C. For example, a coating of only 2 μm thickness of ta-C increases the resistance of common (i.e. type 304) stainless steel against abrasive wear; changing its lifetime in such service from one week to 85 years.

Agreed it IS very tough, but there are people here who own Blacksteel watches that have managed to scratch the coating, and without particularly try to. Additionally I'm pretty sure there are people here who have noted that the DLC on exposed sharp edges can also show signs of wear after just a couple of years.

I've seen that "extending the life of service from 1 week to 85 years" quote before, and I must be honest but I'm a little dubious of it's real-world application. Perhaps it would hold true for something like a bearing assembly where the metal on metal contact is regular and predictable, but I just don't think it's possible to make the same claims for watches that can be exposed to a variety of knocks and abrasions from various angles.

Personally you couldn't pay me to own a DLC watch : I agree they can look pretty cool, but a damaged coating is not repairable (other than a professional bare-metal recoat), so that alone is enough to make me steer well clear. If I wanted a black watch, I'd go ceramic.... but that's just me, and ultimately it's each to their own.

Yes to both.

My Skyland BS has been off the OEM tang for 2 years or more and that was already showing wear at the edges (and it was ahardly a daily wearer).
