OK, so after assuming the £599 32Gb handset will still cost a fortune even on contract, imagine how surprised I was to find out that my provider will give me that handset for just £39 on my existing contract! So, I'll be an iPhone 5 owner in a couple of weeks! Cool! :D

Great Deal!! The best deals in the States are $199 (£123) for the 16gig up to $399 for the 64gig.

The 4s was a let down, it offered only minor improvements over the 4. The 5 is a major step forward which a much faster processor, its thinner and lighter, bigger screen, 4G LTE, better battery life (or so they say), FaceTime over 3G, and front facing HD camera finally.

Not an big enough upgrade from the 4s? I don't agree with that at all!

:yeahthat x2
Preordered my iPhone 5 64GB, in the first 4 minutes of online sale, for launch day delivery :cheer:

Everything is better on i5. Finally will be 4G and with better battery life than a i4S :nana:

The i4S was a better phone than the i4, at the expense of worse real world battery life. The i5 has a twice as fast CPU, lower power display and processor, and a bigger battery- than yields longer life.

My Verizon 3G speed is typically 1Mbps Download, 0.84Mbps Upload. My 4G iPad has clocked 37Mbps Down, 20Mbps Up. Which is faster than my home cable WiFi connection. :wowzers can't wait!

The best thing about iPhone is the software. Android, Windows, don't hold a candle to Apple iOS. I had used them both before I finally got an iPhone 4.
Other phones may have a bigger display, faster clock speed, more useless features, but for the foreseeable future, anything else is a downgrade.
Siri does suck, Apple still calling it a beta program due to how poor it performs at voice recognition. I have never liked anybody's VR feature. I still consider it near worthless.

Sent from my iPad3.

Was/is still the same way in the USA with the 3 major carriers here, but it started with the 3G frequencies, and technologies; GSM and CDMA. Apple didn't offer a CDMA (Verizon) phone until the iPhone4. That's what kept me from an iPhone for so long. The other carriers networks had unacceptable coverage outside of the large cities, Verizon still has the best network coverage area across the country, now even with the conversion to 4G LTE technology.

For those disappointed with the iPhone 5, don't despair, here is the 10:

Or, even better with the help of the Force:

That's a great deal mate, I'm about to tell Vodafone to stick it after 13 years as a business customer. I renewed my contract last year and noticed last month my account online stated it was a 53 month contract, I sent 3 emails asking why and had no reply, finally I sent an email telling them what they could do with their contract and today I get an email telling my commitment is until November 2013, no explanation as to why it said 53 months, no apology.................................

So perhaps I should shop around for a new provider with a good deal on an iPhone 5 64Gb to replace my current 4S 64Gb (mind you I could probably manage with a 32Gb to be honest!).

I may have spoken too soon about having one "in a couple of weeks". More like a couple of years if I'm lucky. Apparently the release of the iPhone 5 completely caught Orange by surprise because their website can't handle processing a phone upgrade. Ten mins to even log into my account, and then I select the phone and it just says "oops" and throws me out. AWESOME service!!!!!!

And then you phone up to try and get it processed, and get told to order an iPhone 5 online! Cheers.

ok, so the first reviews are in - and quite interesting.
hope this does not evolve into a fanboy war again, the engadget reviews are worth reading.

the hardware is getting stellar results, performance benchmarks are quite impressive, more than the claimed "two times faster" than the 4S, quite a bit faster than the S-competition, though I'm sure this will change again with the new Galaxy Note.

IOS6, especially the new Maps app, seems to be a bit disappointing; no really relevant (to me, at least) improvements overall.

phone: http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/18/appl ... -5-review/
ios6: http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/18/ios-6-review/#maps

and then, of course, there is the docking horror ....

Well, despite your report Fred, it seems that the "5" is better off than the "4".

The Cupertino group had registered more than 2 million pre-orders within 24 h which is the double for the same period compared to the old model.

it IS a great product - and I have one on pre-order.
the A6 processor core - for the technically interested http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/09/ap ... mancewatt/ - is an impressive innovation.
still no reason not to see reality, the pros and cons.

On a side note, just downloaded iOS 6 on both my 4S and iPad and there's some great new and enhanced features on there!

I just started and it says 2hours remaining. I'm guessing the Apple servers are a bit jammed today. :(

That's weird, it only took me 11 minutes, but I did it at lunch today. We'll have to see how the new maps app goes compared to Google's. The other small touches have been nice minor improvements.
