Great interpretation of the California dial

Explaination of a California Dial.

In watch-making, or horology, a California dial refers to a clock face that consists of half Roman (usually 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock) and half Arabic numerals (usually 4 o'clock to 8 o'clock). Sometimes the hours of 3, 6, and 9 are replaced with a dash instead of a numeral and an inverted triangle in place of the 12. The use of this dial style dates back to the 1930s, for example in early Rolexes, Marina Militare and Kampfschwimmer diver's watches. A number of Rolexes were refurbished by a company based in California using this style of dial, and resulting in the name "California dial".

thanks all for the nice comments, friends.

today another Chronomat, 21 years later than the 769, from 1967. one of the first "big case" models, big even for today w/ 47mm.

another dirty, cracked vintage piece that "people can't stand" as I have learned in the "Greatest Breitling" thread ?
(what was it Driver8 ? "*ahem* patina", "darkened lume", "scratch-happy plexiglass crystals", "uncrisp edges" ....)

Fred - That is stunning. Looks like brand new. Amazing :lingsrock:

Doing some tryout today, I'm on the verge of taking the plunge on this... But I decided to be reasonable about it and to sit it out for a couple of month... If I still feel the itch in January... Well, that'll be the one.

hopefully when the time comes and you want the watch our friends at Rolex dont decide to do a price hike. one thing i can tell you for sure....if you want the hulk now and you can afford it then buy it. if you get bored later on you will be able to sell it for what you paid.

Well unfortunately with Rolex, one can never really tell... But the thing is, I really don't want to go through the hassle of reselling it. Too time intensive...

Anyhow, treating my Rolex hunger with this today:

Thanks Aadam :)
I agree. Navitimer 01 & Navitimer World define Breitling (IMHO).
