Hey guys,

I think i need to send my watch into breitling. My watch keeps stopping. At first I thought it was just the watch not generating enough energy on my wrist as I sit at a desk all day at work.

Tonight I saw that my watch had stopped at 9:00PM. This seemed odd because the night before I remember winding the watch 40 rotations and the next day wore it all day to find that it stopped at 9PM. Now the really troubling part for me was that when I starting winding the watch again tonight to get it going - it would start at all, the seconds hand just stayed in the same position. I kept winding and winding and winding... nothing....NEXT i started to shake the watch in my hand so I could hear the self winding mechanism moving.. in a few more minutes the watch starting again and the seconds hand moving.

Now I am pretty certain that this does not sound right...........This watch is only a couple months old - my wife gave it to me as a gift in April. I have never banged the watch or anything....

any of the experts around here think this is a easy fix or does it sound more serious?

Well it's not going to get better if you keep shaking it!

There may be a problem with something causing additional inertia in the running train - dirt, a damaged jewel, could be anything. It's going to need Breitling service attention though.

Also I dont think 40 winds are a full charge just a decent power up. The only way to be really sure is buy a watch winder (if you don`t already own one) and let it turn the watch (after 40 manual winds first) for 36 hrs or so. Then set it down and see what power reserve you have - ideally 42hrs plus.

My 1461 before service could only manage about 12 hrs, but now its back up to 42.

40 winds is a full power reserve, it's even in the manual.

That doesn't make much sense to me. If it was magnetism then it would be running fast when it was running, and could have been fixed by the watchmaker in 5 seconds without opening the case. Good to know that it's getting sorted out though.

Warranty work is given priority, can you contact Breitling Australia directly?

Having a look at Breitling website - Australia only has an Authorised service centre in Sydney..

Centre de maintenance officiel
BREITLING OCEANIA - DKSH AUSTRALIA PTY LTD.
LEVEL 3, 154 ELIZABETH STREET, NSW
NSW 2000 SYDNEY

Tel +61 2 9283 6286
Fax +61 2 9261 2837

I assume this is how it works in many parts of the world for Breitling. I could ring them, but woould I quote the repair number from my AD? or the serial number which i assume is in all the paper work for the watch?

No clue, but I am sure that they would tell you what they need. Presumably the AD only took watch and warranty book so you should still have the serial number on the COSC.

I think I had a similar experience. I made a post in this forum (Fully wound Breitling stops after several hours) in mid-August. My watch starting showing these symptoms straight after I flew from Taiwan to Australia. At first I thought it was the weather (as ridiculous as it may sound); I flew from a hot and humid country to a cold and dry country.

I had my Breitling Montbrillant 01 looked at by Breitling service centre in Taiwan and just got it back today (spent five weeks in Breitling service centre). I asked the watch repairer and he couldn't give me a straight answer to the cause of the issue or the solution.

Well, I got my Breitling back today.. Yay 3 1/2 weeks....not too bad

Well... receiving my watch, the thing looked like brushed steel it was so grimy from finger prints and sh%t... WTF were they doing to the watch?? bracelet has some scuffs too..

On top of this Breitling didnt even give a report of what the problem even was or what was fixed.. I asked my AD and he said that they didnt supply any paper work with it when they got it back today

I would have thought that some care would have been taken care when hadling the watch as I spen 30 minutes cleaning it myself..
I love this watch, but this just seemed like they didnt give a crap.....

I don't know where you are, so which service centre is that - BUSA?

Either way, if it has scratches on it as a result of the service centre there's absolutely no way I'd be sorting that out myself. It'd be going straight back with a suitably strongly worded letter. IWC scratched my now departed BP and it went straight back with a request that I wanted it sorted out immediately and that if I could see ANY evidence of it having been polished out I'd be asking for a re-case.

Unbelievably poor situation and I hope you get it sorted out.

I'm sorry to hear of your difficulty. I would strongly complain to your AD. I recently sent one to BUSA in CT-USA. While it took 8 weeks to get it back and the communication was poor, the watch came back mint. I elected to send it to Breitling direct because then I communicate directly with them instead of the AD. Sadly the ladies at my local AD know very little about these but it was explained to me when you send one through AD Breitling service won't talk to you directly.

Good luck with your situation.
