Some interesting opinions here!

I'm still on a 4. But not for long.....

The guy who runs the tech side of my company has already sent me an email to say that our phones are on the upgrade list, and the pre orders on our Business account are in place.

So, unless the potential 2 week delay I heard about is true..... this time next week I should have an Iphone 5

All I have to do is wait for a good case for it. I tend to drop my phone :(

Looking forward to trying SIRI and testing the new Maps application. I hear it's brilliant.

I do use my phone as a camera a lot, so the improved camera is a big draw for me.

Hate to admit to being quite excited. I wonder how much it's going to cost me.....

Davey

My nephew already asked me for one, as he has just destroyed his version 3...
So I have my personal tester....

The 4s was a let down, it offered only minor improvements over the 4. The 5 is a major step forward which a much faster processor, its thinner and lighter, bigger screen, 4G LTE, better battery life (or so they say), FaceTime over 3G, and front facing HD camera finally.

Not an big enough upgrade from the 4s? I don't agree with that at all!

I guess it depends how important all that stuff is to you. All I can say is my 3GS is fast enough for what I use it for - i.e. I've never found cause to say it's too slow. It don't find the 3GS to be too heavy, or too thick, or the screen too small. 4G LTE is going to be expensive over here - and for what? Faster speeds? As I say my 3GS has been fast enough. Never had a problem with battery life - I just charge it overnight. The only thing I've ever missed is a forward facing camera, and the 4S has one.

Don't get me wrong, if the 4S and the 5 cost about the same price then I'd obviously have the 5 in a heartbeat, but when the (admittedly contract free) price of the 5 over here is between £520 and £700  , I'm just struggling to see the real justification for me. I'll see what the cost is on my contract plan and then make a decision, but if it's offensively high I'll be getting the free 4S that I'm able to entitled to upgrade to.

Well apparently the 4G on the iPhone 5 isn't compatible with the 4G that Vodafone and O2 provide in the UK............................

Interesting article there Stef.

Two lines seem to stick out for me in there (as a UK consumer) -

"In the meantime, if you want to retain the freedom of being able to roam freely across UK networks you can of course just stick with 3G. Waiting for 4G to grow up a bit and get some stubble on its youthful face may, ultimately, be the best course of action -- especially if you want to avoid the sting of early adopter burn."

and

"There's also the wildcard possibility of O2 and Vodafone throwing a spanner in the iPhone 5 launch by trying to block 4GEE. The pair have made no secret of their outrage at Ofcom's decision to allow EE to reuse its 2G spectrum for 4G this year -- but throw iPhone 5 exclusivity into the mix and their rage might well boil over into legal attempts to derail a 4GEE launch this year. If the pair were able to succeed in scuppering EE's 2012 4G launch, Brit-based mobile lovers could be left in the odd position of owning an iPhone 5 that won't work on any UK 4G networks, ever."

Hmmmmm, 4S here we come!

4G is still spotty here too. Unless I just don't understand the LTE part, I will wait for 4G to grow. I like being able to use all elements of my 3G 4S wherever I am. And it is still lightning fast to me. Indeed, when I got the 4S I considered 4G service but was somewhat discouraged by the Verizon sales person's candid appraisal of coverage issues. So am I missing something with this LTE business? Is 4G now coextensive with 3G coverage?? And if the answer is AT&T, I'll pass. Everyone I know with AT&T still drops calls like it is 10 years ago.

4G phone will automatically switch to 3G coverage where 4G isn't available.

Ive put in my pre order. Hopefully I dont get hit with the delay, but it looks like thats the case.

4G should be great since the 3G around here at times can be painfully slow. From what I gather, our 4G coverage is pretty good.

As for the "minor" improvements, I think thats the way it should be. Major improvements are reserved for products that are way behind. The current iphone is pretty damn good already, but as with any tech product, it becomes outdated if its not regularly improved. The form factor is already amazing, so why make major changes?

I tried to pre-order one this morning. The shipping time was 2 weeks on the apple website and 2-4 weeks on the AT&T website. I'll go in person next Friday.

I have to disagree.

Keep in mind though that true 4G ("true 4G" is now an actual term) doesn't technically exist in the real world.

I preordered for my parents and myself this morning at 2:00am. Apples site was frozen, so I went through AT&T. Got the confirmations today, should be in my hands Friday. Now whether to bring it camping on Saturday... Hmm. Why not...

OK, so after assuming the £599 32Gb handset will still cost a fortune even on contract, imagine how surprised I was to find out that my provider will give me that handset for just £39 on my existing contract! So, I'll be an iPhone 5 owner in a couple of weeks! Cool! :D
