Hi. I’m new to this forum. I wonder if anyone can help me identify this watch. The back of the case has the number 2912 (model number?) and the number 19 inside a circle.

This was my late father’s watch and it hasn’t been used for around 30 years – I don’t know when he bought it, but I can recall him wearing it in the 1960s. I remember he broke the crystal and the crown, and both were replaced with non-authentic parts by a local watch repairer in the early 1970s.

Because of its sentimental value I would like to get the watch restored so that I can use it. The pictures probably make the condition look worse than it actually is. Is it possible to get the correct crystal and crown for the watch, and if so do you have any recommendations on where best to go?

Also, what would be the most appropriate strap for this model?

Hi, congrats on your fathers watch. Can't find a reference 2912 in the Breitling Book by Richter so guess someone else here might know about those model. There are pictures of similar watches though on page 79 of the book.

Don't have references with me at work, but it looks fine. We have a restorer here who can likely help you out - member chronodeco, highly recommended from many members around the globe. You should be aware that it's probably not worth restoring from a purely financial standpoint, but recognize that isn't directly relevant given the sentimental value.

ref. 2912 is not listed in Richter, the notoriously unreliable (but only) Breitling collectors bible.
Replacing crystal and crown is no problem at all, but the watch will require a full service if you plan to wear and use it.
