Today I went into a small watch dealer who is an AD for Hamilton as I was interested in looking at one of the Titanium Khaki Field models in the flesh, but I was also needing to get a couple springabars for my CM24 after losing one during a polish.

Anyhow, after looking over the Hamilton models and inquiring about ordering the specific model i was interested in I requested the springbars which seemed to bother them as an inconvenience. The total tally for two 22mm bars was $12, which seemed a bit absurd. Am I just being cheap here or what?

On an aside....the current Hamilton line-up looked great in the flesh and included several pieces that I would consider owning.

That's ridiculous, I know that ADs have to pay something for them, but the cost is pennies.

Thats sort of what I thought. It isnt like I marched in there and demanded some springbars no matter the cost. I spoke with the sales lady at length about the Hamilton I was looking for and other models. It was also a small store with Hamilton as the top-line along side Seiko, Fortis, and Bulova, so it wasn't like she was wasting time with me at the Hamilton counter.

Seemed like a chincy move by a retail center who wont be getting a sale from me

At my jewelry store I usually give those to my customers for no charge, they are so cheap to buy maybe a $1 for a couple dozen. Just a perk for my customers or even walk ins I never seen. If you need more come see me in Massachusetts.

I asked about the spring bars some weeks ago at the Breitling Service Centre in Taipei and was told the equivalent of six bucks per piece so there is at least some element of consistency if you have been quoted $12 for two.
Suffice to say, I did not get any.

In Singapore Breitling HQ, the springbars are free, but you MUST bring in the Breitling watch they are for. For instance you cannot bring an Emergency and said you wanted 24mm springbars for the SA. No Breitling watch, no springbars.

Well I guess if the going price at a service center is $6/per there is at least some precedent. That being said I didn't mind paying for them I was just shocked at the price.

Probably has nothing to do with the 65 Breitlings you have purchased :poke:

That's nuts. Any AD worth their salt should know not to charge for spring bars. They just lost a customer over pennies. I have a great AD that polishes my watches free, and throws in straps when I buy a watch. (On top of a good discount and zero interest financing.) Once I walked in to an AD in Atlanta that I had never been to before, and asked about a buckle for a croc strap. They guy walked in the back room and had a slightly used one and said it was free. THAT's customer service. If an AD ever attempted to charge me for spring bars, they would never see me or my money ever again.

It's like paying for floormats after having bought a dozen of cars from your local dealership.
