Thought will start this thread to log my experimentation with leather straps on Navis. Here's a crocodile leather strap I tried on my pre 806 (from another watch) while I wait to order some. I must say it looks so different from the vintage steel strap and awesome!

I like the leather straps on the vintage watches, especially the Navitimers. However, I prefer the original 22x16mm configuration because it looks more age appropriate than the more modern 22x18 or 22x20mm straps. The tapered strap has a much more classic look.

Thanks, glad you mentioned the 22-16 taper, will have to keep that in mind when I get straps for the watch.

San, as you seem to like the black strap, Bill Shaine had black lizard straps manufactured according to a period correct OEM strap, 22-16.
decent pricing, nice workmanship.

Thanks Fred, looks great, have seen his straps on eBay. Black is nice but if buy one looking for brown maybe with stitching. Have you seen a brown strap like the one on Kurt's NOS v72 806 anywhere?

none in 22-16, San. I use 22-18, though I agree w/ Paul that the 16s are period correct.

Just saw Bills site again, the tobacco one should go very well I think.

Any reason for the preference for 22-18 Fred, more comfortable or the looks?
