For a big & chunky watch lover like myslef, I gotta say there are quite a few Invctas I see (in Costco of all places) that I wouldn't mind owning for a cheap & fun daily beater.

The only thing stopping me is the over-my-dead-body-Invicta :guns: attitude I read constantly here. But why the hate? Can't be worse than Swatch??

They are a very sketchy company. Not only is their basic premise ripping off existing models, but there is serious doubt that their claims of "Swiss Made" are true. IMO the company is sleezy and skirts the truth and that comes from their huckster CEO down.

Not that I really have an opinion on this or anything. ;)

I would get a Seiko. At least they are what they claim they are and make some good watches at modest prices.

@H2F - I must be honest, but my only experience of Invicta is what I've read here and on-line elsewhere..... and yes, very little of it is good! I've never seen them for sale in the UK (or maybe I've just not looked that hard!), and the only place I remember actually seeing them in shops was in Spain. I'm sure I've must've seen them in other countries too, but Spain was the only time I guess I took them in..... and I must be honest I didn't instantly hate them or anything like that. Sure a lot of their models seem to be *ahem* "rather similar" in a few ways to models made by the big players, but that's nothing new in the world of watches - many, many brands "borrow" from the well established names....... but Invicta's general reputation is enough to make me steer clear.

Invicta is the watch industry equivalent of dodgy guy that you steer clear of when you see them on the street - no ggod can come from associating with them. Many, many watches (including Swatch) that I would take at that price point before Invicta.

There really are doubts of origin of some of their "Swiss" movements. There are doubts of location - China! - of some of their Swiss Made labeled watches. They are constantly under investigation by the Federation. Lalo is better at dodging direct questions than a seasoned politician. And to top it off, they are partnered with ShopNBC. 'Nuff said.

Another thing to add to the list is their tactic of having a very inflated MSRP to obviously fool people into thinking they are getting a better deal than they really are.

As others have already noted, with Invicta you have to look past the watches (most of which are rip-offs of other designs) and consider the sleaziness of the company behind them.

I take great satisfaction every time I walk past an Invicta counter, because that's one less sale for that dirtbag Eyal Lalo.

Oh, and one more thing — horror stories abound regarding their service capabilities (or almost total lack thereof).

I agree with Sharkman — if you need a $150 watch, buy a Seiko or Citizen.

By the way, Invicta isn't the the only game in town for low-priced behemoths. Check out Renato, Android, Adee Kaye. Just please don't give your money to Eyal. :nutkick:

My disdain started like 10 years ago when I saw them on Shop NBC. They were talking about them like the were the finest watches money could buy. It was completely cheesy. Fast forward to today, and they have way too many full on ripoff models, and ive read way too many horror stories about their customer service. They are not a brand I would ever consider buying.

Thanks for the explanation guys. The models I was interested in looked nothing like any from the established brands -- but as I said, I've been brainwashed here often enough that I resisted buying one. Don't want to be banned over Invicta!

Sooner, I'll check out some of those others you mentioned! Thanks!

Eddy (with a Y) Murphy talks Invicta. :)

I was actually looking for a video from the shopping channel. Can't remember exactly what happened, but think the watch broke during the segment. Couldn't find that video, so this is all I got.

ShopNBC actually mistakenly left that one on their website a while before they realized and took it down. The watch fell completely apart. It was hysterical.

Do you know how long ago that was? I think it was only a few months back I seen it on WUS, so still might be floating around.

I've read a lot of it has to do with the company. Quality-wise, they are lackluster. People report issues with the movements, issues with the water resistance, and issues with longevity, not to mention issues when trying to get work done under warranty. See the below images of the first results from them, Citizen Eco Drive, and Seiko...notice the difference in customer reviews. They have some good looking designs but most watch companies do...and Seiko and Citizen have some gorgeous ones that aren't Rolex copies and both also make automatic watches of exceptional accuracy (most people don't know Citizen makes autos but they do, see their Signature Collection).

:yeah that:

My only experience with Invicta was precisely this - late night shop-at-home garbage purported to be everything in "fine Swiss timing".

It's actually sad and dilutes the "brand" of true Swiss watches
