$250 to $400. It can't be less and can't be more...this can be MSRP or SRP (edit: used is okay too). So what would it be?

I would probably go for the Seiko Premier SPC051 at around $350.

MSRP or SRP means new, I take it? Honestly I'd try gently used first. I have seen Tissot PRS 516s on strap pre-owned at about $350, new before any discount, if there is one, is about $550 I think. Might find one on internet sites on bracelet for $450. A lot of (automatic) watch for the money.

Used is okay too. A friend was asking me what the coolest watches were in that price-range, so I figured I'd get a few thoughts from people here given the wealth of knowledge that is on this forum.

Nice and lazy choice and one that I must admit is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. I don't own one, but literally find myself coming VERY close to impulse buying about once a month. The Citizen Nighthawk:

I had a friend recently ask my opinion on something in the 300-500 range and I suffered Hamilton, which can be had new or lightly used in that range. My first $500+ was a Hamilton and I still keep an eye on their offerings.

I'll vouch for the Citizen as well. I've got the Skyhawk AT in titanium and as much as I'm not a quartz guy, this watch gives a lot of the high end quartz pieces a good run for the money. Big but lightweight case, solid bracelet, nice functions (chrono, timer, perp. calendar, world time, etc) atomic timekeeping and powered and recharged by light.

I chose this Ocean7 LM-3 Version 1 a few years back for a "beater". It has a 1000m WR and is very tough. The orange minute hand is very easy to see at a glance. The only problem I've had with it is that the crown doesn't always "engage" when winding. I have to slightly push it in and wind at the same time. I think a new crown would be around $75 plus labor at a local shop. I didn't think it's worth repairing as I only paid $375.00 for the watch. I think MSRP was closer to $600.00.

If you want to stay with "Swiss Made," you'd have to start with Hamilton and Victorinox.

Otherwise . . . Seiko, Citizen, Orient. Not my cuppa tea, but many swear by them.

Actually now those look pretty sharp... love the Chinese writing on the dial. Very unique and different.
