Rolex deep sea for sure they are well built. Good movements and also what you pay for is what you get the watch costs more or less what you paid for. Also they are easy to get serviced. So Rolex for me.

well. their is a KINK in my plan!! i stopped after work to check out a white/baton dial SA since its been so long since i last tried one on. i forgot how big it was! lol. but it does fit great with the big wrists...
its an AD i have never bought from, been in once. so im looking around, and the omega case catches my eye. oh lets see, they just got in this planet ocean. http://www.omegawatches.com/gents/seama ... 0462101003
45.5mm, on bracelet, 8500 in house.

i have to say i was more blown away with this watch than the SA. so now i have another dilemma, seems that the planet ocean has been added to my list.lol i wont get a chance to check out the dssd until this week. unfortunately i dont have an AD locally that carries all 3 or either of the 2 with rolex....

so the list stands:

rolex deep sea
breitling super avenger
omega planet ocean 45.5mm in house
panerai pam 422 , pam 372

update: sunday. well. my dreams of the dssd are officially dead!! i was almost ready to "accept" the 43mm diam. UNTIL i looked down at the womens tennis bracelet sized deployment....
lol. im sorry, but i think they truely dropped the ball on this. it is really small compared to just about every other diver or watch that has an untapered bracelet. im sure its not as bad on a smaller wrist, but IMHO it looks a little weird on ME..

on a positive note i did try on a panerai. they didnt have the 372 or 422 avail. but i tried a 328 on metal bracelet and was utterly impressed. the bracelet makes the 44mm size pam seem a lot bigger than it actually is. so ive pretty much decided on either the 422 or 372 if im gonna spend $9k or if im gonna go "cheap" ill prob end up with the planet ocean at about $5k....

Interesting thread. Started on a Breitling vs a Rolex and ended up being an Omega vs a Panerai. :)

I can totally relate to that. I loved my Blackbird and few people would probably think it looked too small on me, but one's perception is all that counts, so I made a big move unloading all three of my watches and picked the two I wanted and will never look back. I do miss the BB and SA but probably not enough to buy them again, but I would never say never.

the watch diam, wasnt really bad. but the thin bracelet just killed it for me on the dssd.

Yup. I must have looked at a DSSD 50x over the last few years. But each time I could not get over the stupid bracelet width (even if it's supposed to be as comfortable as silk boxers..).

I'd go the deep sea over the SA... and the Omega over the Panerai

I'd go for the DSSD as well. Not a fair comparison though. But if price matters then the DSSD is more than twice as expensive as the SA. The DSSD is actually the only Rolex I really like.

Amazingly, the clasp width is the same on the DSSD and the Sub. Even on the Sub, the taper takes some getting used to. On the DSSD, it just looks dumb, imo.

Personally I'd get the Breitling, but that's just personal choice. I've always wanted a Breitling while many of my friends have always wanted a Rolex. The thing that really turned me away was their band, which I never thought was all the comfortable (or great looking) and I am not sure how durable it is (probably very but I don't know). With that said, the movement in the DS is unbelievable as is the durability, but I personally find the SA more unique as so many people have Rolexes (is "Rolexes" correct grammar?...it looks so silly). Also, the price is a lot less...even if you aren't hurting for cash, there's nothing wrong with saving a few bucks. A SA would bring me equal or more joy than the others you listed, but again, that's just my opinion for whatever it is worth.

The super avenger is always on my list.... I really want a Pam, just depends if I'm ready to spend that kind of $$ on a watch. Also I just found out the model 422,423 prob won't be out until fall or spring anyway... :(

I swapped 2 Super Avengers and a little cash for a New DSSD

One was the black battons dial and one blacksteel model

I loved them both and having a 7.8" wrist had me worried about the size too.

But I've never looked back and totally love the DSSD

Yes the clasp is thin but you get used to it and I love it now the micro adjustment it has is superb!

I've scince lost a fair but of weight and my wrist is 7" now...DSSD is more like a Super Avenger on me now lol.

The DSSD is deff a keeper for me....I can't see myself ever letting it go.
