First of all, Many Congratulations on the immenent arrival.

That's a lovely idea.

How would you get the watch put in the baby's name?

Either way having the papers stamped for the baby's birth date is a nice touch.

Do you know that it is a boy then?

Thanks Ricardo. We know it's a boy and every ultrasound has confirmed it. My AD is just going to wrist in my son's name where my name would go.

Only just read this thread. Great idea Justin.... and all the better that you get to wear it in the meantime!

Nothing to add really, other than it's a fantastic idea, you're choosing the right type of watch if you stick with a classic Rolie, and can you adopt me please as I'm of a watch-wearing age already so you won't need to even bother yourself by wearing it beforehand! :D

I told my 3 year daughter that I'm buying this watch for her brother and the first thing she said to me is that I can't give it to him until his wrist is bigger. I then asked her if she wanted one as well and she said no.

Great idea Justin. Will be interesting to see how willing you are to let it go in the years that follow. What age to be given - 16, 18, 21...50? :D A shame you have to let the other two go, but there will always be more.

What do you guys think, the Sub or the 1931 Reverso? The Reverso just came in this week and it's very tempting.

As an heirloom watch, the Reverso just has that more of a "pass it down to your son feel" to it. But I love Reversos anyway so I'm biased.

But the Sub is a classic in its own right too and 20-30 years later both watches will still be in style.

well, dissenting opinion from me.

no doubt the Sub is a great watch - but quite ubiquitous; a watch you probably would buy anyway, sooner or later.

This particular Reverso is limited "Tribute" edition - a "now or never" chance to get this new and untouched, it will remain a very special, unique piece - a perfect choice for a "Birthday Watch".

Reverso by a huge margin.

As Fred says the Sub is an anytime watch, a Reverso is an occasion watch, especially that one.

JLC or Rolex....only one winner in that contest I feel. (It's the JLC by the way)

Assuming the little fella will end up being into watches like his father, the Reverso Might do the trick but the Sub will certainly work regardless if he is into watches or not.
So the Sub is a safer bet of future appreciation by your son.
On the other hand if he is not into watches and does not like the Reverso, it will certainly be appreciated by grandpa ;-)
