My 2 cents worth :)

I trully bought my watch (Super Avenger a few days ago) mainly because I just love the style and when I first saw it it just spoke to me (please have me) hahhaa (if only all women would say that  )

Now I'm 28, work as a Financial Advisor (Investments) and trully a normal guy...well a few vodkas change that hahaha... love my Football (Soccer) & ofcourse the ladies 8)

So the image that we have here of Breitling (Adelaide AUS), is that no-one really knows it. I have worn my watch for 3 days now and all the comments are of the categories you all mentioned (what is it, is it expensive and most of all WOW I want one).

In my view I would never buy anything I didn't like or want. My mates all told to go for a Rolex or Raymond Weil...but trully none of those appealed to me....Breitling trully matches my personality, so that's why now I wear my Ling proudly :)

and in regards to the ladies...they love the watch, now the only problem is that my girlfriend wants a ring double the value (oh my if she only knew that a Breitling is more valuable then her  hahah just jokes)

Best Regards all,

Luka

I buy and wear watches that appeal to me and over time my taste has changed. Initially I thought Breitling were too flash which is why I bought a matt finished SuperOcean. After wearing it for a few years I was impressed by it sturdiness and quality. My second Breitling was supposed to be a Chronomat but after seeing the Super Avenger for the first time I just had to have one. As for its wrist presence for the most part I wear it on the Diver or leather just to tame it down a little bit.

Some have commented about Breitling not having a in house movement to which I usually reply neither did the original Rolex Daytona and if I wanted a in house movement I would get myself a Seiko. A Seiko? Usually follows to which I say they are perhaps one of the VERY few who is truly 100% in house and without charging a arm and a leg. But it’s a Seiko? Are they not the guys who make those cheap watches? Yes, but if you believe it has to be "Swiss made" and high priced before you considered it good quality then so be it.

At the end of the day you have to go with what suits you and your taste.

There is an awesome article on chronocentric.com which divides Luxury Watch Brands into 4 categories
a) High End Luxury - Eg. A Lange and Sohne, Audemars Piguet, Breguet, Franck Muller, JLC, Patek Phillipe
b) Luxury - Cartier, Ebel, Breitling, Rolex, Omega
c) Psuedo Luxury - Tag Heuer, Raymond Weil, Maume & Mercier
d) Basic Luxury - Fortis, Movado, Oris, Rado

It is a Very Interesting Article and a MUST Read for anyone interested in the questions raised by this post. It talks about issues like resale value, usual price ranges, - the URL is http://www.chronocentric.com/watches/brands.shtml

RJ, it sounds like you're enjoying the single life quite a bit between Vegas and TJ.   I'm married now, but my wife prefers Breitling to my other watches. And she prefers the bigger, shinier ones (Skyracer, Datora) to the more understated titanium ones (Aerospace, Emergency).

lol. Yes! I turned 26 in may, so I have to maximize my years.

I think women (and some men, like myself...and most other B owners) just suffer from an incurable case of magpie syndrome. That alone is the #1 reason my Steelfish just woudnt cut it. I absolutely loved that watch, but deep down I knew that something was missing.

To some degree, the SA may have the nightclub bouncer image, but that's it as far as I'm concerned. To me, Breitling goes hand in hand with aviation, look at any advert for Breitling and you will see what I mean.
I was at the Farnborough Aishow yesterday, I have never seen so many people wearing them in all my life - Fantastic!!!

What first attracted to Breitling is the SIZE of there watches and details. Then as I kept reading more about the watches and the movement I was even more intrigued an knew at that point I wanted to have a ling.

I love the rolex, but for some reason the sizes on rolex are just too small for me. After wearing my motors though I dont think I can put on a watch smaller than 44mm. I am sure others can attest to wearing bigger sized watches as well

Welcome to the forum!

In Sweden, I'd say Breitling is pretty unknown and therefore ex-bouncers aren't likely to wear them. Their "customers" won't recognize it as much money on the wrist. That is changing however, so it might become more occurring.

For your own watch, if you prefer an Emergency then don't settle with something else. You'll only regret it or you'll end up getting the Emergency anyway...

Mercury - Excellent article!

Breitlings for some reason from what I have seen seem to be a favorite watch out there in the west coast especially everytime I go to vegas, which is frequent. I have however seen a lot of totally fake lings out there as well...mainly the chronomat :cigar:

I’ve owned numerous Swiss mechanical timepieces over the last decade.

My favourite is my Breitling Bentley GT – but I’ve never liked the cross-marketing with Bentley. Breitling at its best makes old school pilots’ watches – it just so happens the Bentley GT is a beastier Navitimer/Chronomatic. I’d rather an Aston Martin any day!

I like the JLC with the mechanical depth gauge – but it’s four times as much and half as sexy as the GT!

It's interesting, but I see a wide variety of people wearing Lings that it's hard to pin down. I do agree with the "new money" thing, but that could just mean that the past few years have been the period where the brand is coming into its own--like Rolex in the early 80s. Remember that whatever 20-30 somethings wear today will likely be be what they wear in their later years, which will eventually lend the brand more credibility as an "established" product.

Very interesting Mercury2wo - taken me a while to get through it all but well worth the effort. A good site - nowhere near as good as Breitling Source but a handy reference.

Cheers

well guys- i finally got my Breitling- a s/s Breitling Super Avenger with blue face and it is jaw-droppingly stunning and oh so ginormous. its been v.interesting reading the comments above and getting an idea of how the brand is perceived around the world but as you rightly say, its down to personal preference and i just had to go 'large'!!!!i'm sure this will be the first of many breitlings down the road but next on my list is a dress watch, thinking a black strap IWC Portuguese.

i will defo have some pics up soon (when my camera gets repaired) as the SA certainly dwarfs the rest of my collection.
