Very nearly got banned for posting a similar tread on t different forum a while back so hope its not the same here!

Either way its a genuine question.

Let me explain.

With the 16610LV, which I bought new BTW, it was and correct me if I am wrong branded as a 50th edition, limited edition, limited run, special edition, green edition or what ever spin you like on it.

Now splash out for the "Rare" green watch. Wow that went well let's jump on it a put out another LV green watch, the 116610LV.

So Rolex taking the piss or market hype?

Rolex is Rolex. They do whatever they want and spin it any way the want and most of us "kool aid" drinkers suck it back and say thanks.

dont get it twisted the 116610 LV is in no way limited. Rolex themselsves just limit the production and let the internet monkey builod the hype.

a while back my AD called and said they had and LV-C in and Rolex told them to take it out of the display case. so they did....but when Rolex left it went back in the case. point being they just try to make it hard to get, but its all bull sh##.

Rolex have always been like that. The 16610LV (which I owned myself) was ALLEGEDLY so rare I had a ridiculous wait to get one. (Over a year I remember). Then shortly after I picked mine up, the market's interest in the LV dipped, and oh look, suddenly Rolex obviously "found" a way to produce them far quicker as the market was suddenly flooded with them. :guns: When I was looking to sell my LV (which was not long after I bought it) a watch dealer I know said I'd be better off putting a black bezel on it and selling it like that as there were so many LV's around at that time!

Limited, my ar$e! Unless a Rolex is a specifically numbered LE, then they aren't remotely limited in terms of production as Rolex churn out a ridiculous number of watches each year. Yes they may artificially limit supply, but production level are best described as industrial.

It's like the oh so rare Daytona... My father loves the Daytona. One day he decided he wanted a black dialed one to match his white one. So that day he walked into an AD's and was served the cool aid by the salesperson... A year's worth of waiting time was announced etc... It might have been a bit impolite when my father suddenly cut off the AD, told him that he'd heard and appreciated the myth the first time but that now he just wanted a friggin watch... Couple of moments later he walked out of the place with a black Daytona... So much as to the hype...

I guess in way.....yes. they try to make it harder to get. If you think about it its actually quite smart. how many other watch companies out there could convince the masses to want a green dial watch??? i mean really, green is a hard color to match but we all lineup to get one. myself included. dont take me wrong its a great piece, but just dont believe the hype.

Not me. I wouldn't own one, even at half the price. It does absolutely nothing for me. Now, the blue one in white gold...that's a jean-creamer if I ever saw one. JMO, of course. (That means "just my opinion," not "jacking myself off.")

As for the original question, I'm not sure I get the point. The 116610LV is a the newer model. Were you under the impression the 16610LV was going to be the only green Sub ever?

I've never been a Rolex, but it's been from the standpoint that I don't want to be associated with what the brad represents. It's too cliche for me. However, the lack of customer service shown to you by the AD and Rolex NY is pretty bad, especially considering you're a repeat customer. Clearly Rolex believes their own make-believe hype, and that's a big problem in my book.

hahhahahah JMO under the second description actually made me laugh out loud. Im a big fan of the WG smurf too. but at 4 times the cost of its SS brother its hard to make a case to own it.

The color of the smurf in person is hideous. I was extremely disappointed when I tried it on, it's far too bright. It needs to be a deeper blue, instead of a bright blue. It's one of those watches that look better in photos than in real life. :guns: :rolex

That's a fair point, and it's true that I've only seen it in pictures. None of the ADs in my area have ever had it in person. Realistically, I'd never own it anyway. It's hard to justify white gold when it offers no appreciable aesthetic improvement over SS, and is far more prone to scratching. Then again, realistically, I'll never date Kate Upton, but it doesn't stop me from gawking at pictures of her.

As for your Rolex debacle, yeah, that would piss me the hell off, too. What would have been funny is if you had gone through with the sale, knowing full well you couldn't get that kind of discount anywhere else (even at the higher price), and then report the sale to Rolex as being both an impermissible discount, and an impermissible interstate sale. Then it's win win, at least for you.
