Hi all.
I am trying to plan my next grail watch. I think it will be either the avenger seawolf chrono or the superocean heritage chrono. I love the seawolf but I have to say that I am dissapointed that it is quartz. My goal was to have all mechanical watches, but I really love the look of the seawolf. I would really like your thoughts/opinions on quartz vs mechanical and what you think.
Thanks :)

I don't really think that anyone can tell you what your grail watch should be - it's either the watch that you feel would form the pinnacle of your collection or it isn't.

In terms of quartz vs. mechanical, you'll find quite a few threads on the subject already and it again comes down to persoanl choice. Personally I see nothing wrong with quartz and Breitling's SQ is clearly among the best, just not for me.

What Roff said, plus if you really like the look of the Seawolf Chrono, how abount an Avenger? It's SS, mechanical, just the sub dial/dial combinations are slightly different. Both watches are nice IMO, just different looks. The Avenger series is one of my personal faves, very rugged and sporty. The SOHC has a bit more of the classic retro look. Good luck in your choice.

I too wonder why they don't make a Seawolf chrono automatic. But they don't, so I bought the stratus silver which should be here next week. :lingsrock: I don't think I would have got a Chrono anyway, as I've had the Seawolf on my mind for over a year as it was part of a deal I made with myself trading the 3 I had (BB, SA & Ball Spacemaster) for the 2 I decided I wanted (Black 6.75 & silver Seawolf) I didn't think it would take this long, and probably wouldn't have had I not bought a Helson and Steelfish in between. But I will be glad to finally complete my plan, and just hope I like the silver so I don't have to start thinking about what to trade it for. But if I don't love it I have some decent trading material as I'd have no problem losing all three divers to get something I really like.

Yeah, if you like the looks of the Seawolf Chrono, then the Avenger is very close and an auto. I used to like the Seawolf Chrono over the Avenger Skyland because the former has reflective hour numerals, whereas the latter had just painted. But when they changed the name to just "Avenger" they made the numerals reflective and that sealed it for me. One important difference is that the Seawolf Chrono is brushed while the Avenger is polished, which might matter to you.

The Seawolf Chono is still pretty neat, though. It has a superquartz movement and is about the only model watch where the pushers can be operated underwater (the electromagnetic mechanism would not work for a mechanical watch, which is probably why it is quartz). As far as tool watches go, it's one of the best. it takes wear very well and keeps on ticking.

It seems to me if you have to think about it, it's not a grail.

And shouldn't "a" grail be "the" grail?

No one can tell you what YOUR grail should be, only you can decide that. Tell us what you are looking for in a watch and we can offer up some suggestions.

Here's my grail...and as soon as I have a spare $250k laying around I'm buying one. Breitling take notice, THAT'S how to use a globe on a dial and not look restupidiclious

I guess it comes down to whether a person's grail is the single watch he covets more than any other, or whether it's one of several watches that fit this description. That's semantics, though. Either way, that's what a grail watch is: a watch you covet very highly, to the point of lusting after it. There's no doubt involved, and you don't need to ask other people what your grail watch is; you know already. If you post a thread asking, "What should my next grail be? I mean, I like these watches, but I don't know..." then you're not talking about a grail watch. You're just talking about your next watch purchase.
