I have always had rather neutral feelings about Rolex.
Never hated them but nothing in their range other than "look I'm wearing a Rolex" tickled my fancy enough to part with the $$$.
A couple of models in their Tudor range on the other hand being a bit more daring did catch my attention and about three months ago I bought the Fastrider.
I recall this being JustinFournier's favorite watch in my collection :-) :-) :-). The holly water and garlic reference still makes me laugh :-)

Anyway, unlike the white and black models, the red Fastrider does not come with a bracelet option, only leather and nato straps.
With some serious arm twisting and with the help from the lovely sales lady in the Rolex Boutique in Taipei, I managed to persuade the Rolex Distributor in Taiwan to order the bracelet for me.
I went to their office with my watch, warranty, receipts, etc... They took all details, photocopies of all docs including my passport and said it will take 3-6m months (!!!)
Today I got a call from them, the bracelet is here in Taipei.

So I fronted up at their main office in Taipei only to be asked - "Did you bring your watch Sir?"
My Fastrider however is sitting in Beijing in my friends safe as I started moving my watches over there 2-3 pieces at the time per trip in preparation for my relocation to Beijing as I do not want to bring nearly 30 watches with me through China Customs in one go when we finally move there.
Anyway, today Rolex said no watch no bracelet, even though they had all the details, even though I can show them the warranty card, receipts, etc.. that I have with me.
No watch, no bracelet -period. Why? "Because one of our technicians has to put it on for you Sir".
What a load of bull dust.

I swear, my foot will never step through a Rolex shop door again.

Everybody knows that only a highly trained technician can put a bracelet on a watch.

That just seems deliberately obtuse.

I've heard the many times and I completely agree with your assessment of the brand. I have a few homages or some may call them copies from Steinhart and Debaufre. I like the designs of the ones that I bought, but not enough to make me want to buy the real thing. I have a Steinhart Vintage GMTan homage the the Explorer II and the Ocean One sub as well as a Pepsi dial GMT

Well, all is well that ends well and yes I had to step through a door of a Rolex shop again.
A friend of mine, another watch nut by the way, with friends "in high places" managed to pull some strings or as the Chinese would say made use of "houmen" which literally translates "to back door".
The Rolex distributor released the bracelet to the AD where I bought my Tudor and my wife's Rolex.
Of course the bracelet was than released by the AD to me together with apologies for the illogical dramas.
Sometimes it is not what you know but who you know that matters.

Have to wait a few more days. The watch is in Beijing already but the bracelet is still in Taipei which was the root cause of all the dramas in the first place ;-)
Both shall be re-united next week.
