US prices should actually be reduced by about 10.5% - the decline of the Swiss Franc to US$ ratio June11/June12, as stated above.

Last summer was a great time to have CHFs -- it got to near equity with the Euro which made shopping in France and Germany incredibly cheap. Good for consumers here but not so good for exports. Then the Swiss government stepped in, weakening the Franc so that all of you can buy watches more cheaply. Looks like Rolex isn't playing along. :poke:

At the end of the day, Rolex will charge what the market is willing to tolerate. I have a feeling the number of watches sold won't decline much with the new price increase.

You may well be right. Personally, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to justify Rolex's prices. I really like some of their watches, but there's a limit. Factoring in a 20% discount,* I could actually buy an Omega Aqua Terra three-hand and an SMP-C, and still pay $600 less than the latest price for a Sub (or about $225 more than a Sub discounted by 10%, should I be lucky enough to find that kind of deal). In light of that, I would have to really want a Rolex to justify the kinds of prices the company thinks they command.

*As Omega moves further away from an AD model, and more to boutiques, I don't know how much the discounting will continue, but for the time being I believe it's still possible to get fairly good discounts on the brand. That said, even if I payed full retail for those models, they'd still only cost me $1350 more than a Sub at full price.

Was it from Sammy's in Upper Arlington? If so, it was worth every penny. Better than most bagels I've had in NYC.

So, if prices are now raised by 7%, this translates into a currency adjusted price rise of about 19.5% in one year :wowzers

There can only be one reason why Rolex does that: like the dog licking his youknowwhat- because they can. Or at least think so.

:yeahthat Looks like I'm going pre-owned. My new Sub C is getting further and further from my grasp.

you should come to Switzerland for some days - you'll then see how much your dollar is worth at home - even at the current higher exchange rate.

Amen to that. Watch prices aren't bad but food, particularly in restaurants, is outrageous. The price of living in paradise...

Then I am moving to Switzerland. I gave up food when I started buying watches.

I have owned two Rolexes and I suspect I will own another someday. Neither was new, nor will be the next one. No need for it.

I hadn't thought of that - excellent idea. Maybe if I do that I'll be able to afford a Rolex (bringing the thread back home).

MacApple - you have to try Sammy's if you like real NY bagels. We've been here for 2.5 years and I don't miss much from the US but bagels are near the top of the list. Along with parking lots and drink refills. :D
