who- or whatever Timpson is - or whoever they sent the watch to: the watch in your May 04 post is genuine.

Hi ade, I know, I don't know many repairers in here in York. I trust them I guess, they sent the watch to a breitling repairer so, they must be right.

There are two ADs in York, Berrys in Stonegate and Goldsmiths in Spurriergate:

In answer Fred, Timpsons is a UK chain that cut keys and repair shoes. Their watch repair service is probably nothing more sophisticated than changing the battery on a Timex.

let us remember that apparently the Breitling serial number database has problems w/ these old watches, according to Alien's post the database shows this watch as a Crosswind. Maybe the authorized service center checked the watch in the database, and, knowing little about these old models, decided the watch was fake ?

Cheers ade, I wish you had told me that earlier! I shall call in at berrys and goldsmiths and ask for their opinion. Will these offer repairs?
The problem is, I was walking out of university a couple of weeks ago now, and with unsuitable shoes slipped. I must have hit the watch, as the chronograph arms had came off, I personally thought this would be easy to repair, but when timpsons said it wasn't authentic, it couldn't be repaired.
If it is genuine but can't be fixed, I'll have to claim on my insurance.

Cheers everyone, life eh?

Well none of us can know what is inside the watch, but everything in your photos show a genuine watch. It can be repaired, but it won't be cheap!

Hi chaps, just thought I'd update the situation. Took the watch into Berrys (cheers for suggestion ade, much appreciated). The guy said he didn't know much about breitling but his suspicion was that its real. He said it can be repaired but won't be cheap, although I expected this. He said there may be damage to the dial as it was slightly raised, but I'm thinking it might have just came out of position. Apparently it's actually going to breitling, who will know what the deal is and whether it's real, rather than some mickey mouse repair agent!

Apart from that, I'm looking for another watch to add, maybe a super ocean. It's the first and certainly won't be the last!

There is no doubt that it's real (all parts that can be seen on the photos).
Send it to Breitling and you'll have a new watch with one year warranty.

Please explain, is there a charge for that, or will they just issue a replacement?

They will overhaul it and charge you 5 or 6 hundred Pounds (someone will tell you a precise ammount, if there's no additional work on it), but you'll have a new watch with one year warranty.

Maybe less than that - service pricing is on the Breitling website by region. However if the dial is "slightly raised" then it's damaged - a broken foot at least, so that may add to the costs if it needs a new dial.

Now looking to add another one: came across this, is it real?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140773012675? ... 500wt_1175

He mentions a battery change, do Breitling make a quartz watch?

Breitling made and makes quartz watches.
This one is older quartz and real.
Note that it's just 37mm.

37mm as in overall diameter? If so this is fine, as I have really small wrists!
