Yup, justifying spending 5 figures on a device to tell time that's just isn't as accurate as a $30 Casio (or your iphone) is a tough, tough job for anyone who considers themselves halfway intelligent...

Btw, speaking of $$$, a friend of mine is currently repairing his out-of-warranty RM and the repair quote is more than a brand new Daytona

High end indeed...

I wish there were a way just to block a person's signatures, without having to block the person's posts. (H2F, If I get a seizure, I'm suing you.)

I can't speak for nr123, but I wouldn't hire any woman (or man, for that matter) who can't keep her nose cleaned out. No bats in the cave at JS Inc.!

:uplaugh: How could I missspeall one of the greatest things in the world???? My bad.

Grounds for termination at the NR Corp.

"However, one can't deny that the rollies have acquired this somewhat tacky obviousness. They are seen as status symbol first, watch second, and Rolex, always happy to up the bling, isn't quite helping either..."

This phenomenon seems to be why an increasing number of, seemingly witty folks are seeking to dissociate themselves from the darkly-suited monotony of the world's boardrooms by going the "anti-route", thereby largely contributing to Panerai's commercial success.

The darn things (disclaimer II: I like my Pam just as much as my GMT...) are literally popping up all over the place, to the point where you get to wonder how Panerai is keeping up with the demand... or so, you may hear them speak/write up in the major watch Forums."

Whew..."tacky obviousness"? I can easily deny that. Rolex simply has developed better distribution and more agressive marketing than other $1,000 plus watch makers, so the brand is more in the minds of the masses. It is as simple as that. If some people see them as a status symbol first (if this is the case), they are probably a snobs themselves, and therefore Who gives a F**** what they think. Also, whoever you think these "increasingly witty folks" are, whatever that means, and that they would stop buying one brand of $1000 plus watches in favor of another brand of $1000 plus watches to be anti-anything makes no sense. If Panerai is enjoying some financial success, its because people who have money can still afford expensive watches not because some boardroom suits with delusions of being outlaws have latched onto an "anti-Rolex".

Be careful throwing around "we's" when you talk about being a snob, or a snob about snobbery. Some of us here are not watch snobs. My watches fit my needs, my Rolex for some, my Breitling for others, and my Timex for others.
I should state that I have a "dog in this fight", I've owned a sub for 36 years, bought it because I wanted the best watch available to me at the time, was an active diver, and in smalltown USA that's what was available. Most of the people I run into don't even know what it is, but they are not watch snobs either.

I saw my 4th pam in the wild today. One was on stallone, one on some guy at the car wash (which might not have even been a pam--maybe an homage), and some guy on the london tube (definitely a pam, tobacco dial and 1950 case...whatever that model is), and a friend of a friend today with a pam sub. Compare that to the dozens, if not hundreds, of rollies ive seen since then. Trust me, nobody knows what a panerai is.

I'm not going to get into this one too much, other than to say that in my experience, Rolex is still the default "go to" brand for anyone who has money and wants an "expensive" watch, but doesn't know 9or doesn't want to know) much about watches.

Funny, that is exactly my opinion on Rolex and I've posted that on several threads on Rolex, notably this one: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=30615&hilit=rolex+as+status+symbol.

But other members tried to convince me otherwise. :(

Although I enjoyed that, I don't want to get into it all over again.

I’m absolutely shocked that someone on this forum mentioned Tag as a high end watch as they have so many $500-$1,000 pieces.

Man, you're easily shocked. Try finding out that your date is packing heat...then you'll really know what it means to be shocked.

Sounds like a good date story.

The answer to the OP's question is "No." End of discussion.

Some other forums perhaps but here I did not expect this thread to get past first page, two max.
Sadly, I guess I was way wrong.

We're a unique cast of characters here at bsource. You get a lot of different opinions here; watch comments, immaturity, stupidity, and some comic relief......and that's just from me.
